To provide ease and affordable transport along with safety and security reassurance to women in Karachi, Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced to launch blue and pink-coloured taxis.
While talking to the media, the minister shared that the pink taxis will be driven by women for women and cameras will also be installed in the vehicle for safety purposes. Moreover, this decision has been proposed by FM Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
He shared:
“The government is going to start the electrical vehicle (EV) taxi services in Karachi. We have principally agreed to start this taxi service under the Sindh Mass Transit Authority,” adding that pink tax service for women will be launched in the first phase.
“We will start with the pink taxi service, which would only be for women passengers in Karachi. The drivers of the pink taxis will also be women,”
The minister added that the electric taxi services would be safer, more affordable, and more comfortable for the citizens of the metropolis as compared to regular taxi and ride-hailing services. Given the rising inflation and hike in gas prices, women will be able to commute in a pocket-friendly manner without having to worry about their surroundings.
