While Pakistanis are often seen coming out in support of their favourite celebrities, this time around, they are extremely disappointed in most of them.

As Pakistan continues to drown as a result of the monsoon rains, some of our beloved celebrities are having the time of their lives in Canada preparing for the grand scale event – HUM Awards 2022.

Netizens are outraged as to how these celebrities, instead of helping the 1/3 of the country’s population who has suffered, are enjoying carrying out activities such as kayaking, bungee jumping, and shopping.

Moreover, social media is criticising them for not being proactive like Mufti Menk, Angelina Jolie, or even our very own Hadiqa Kiani who has been on-ground helping the survivors.

As a response, the trend #BoycottHumAwards started to pick up.

Iqra Aziz to Make Comeback on TV Screens with ‘Aik Thi Laila’

Iqra Hussain has been missing in action from our TV screens for some time now. However, in a recent interview with Daily Pakistan, she shared that she is gearing up to light up the screens once again with her upcoming drama serial – ‘Aik Thi Laila’.

While speaking to the host, Iqra shared that ‘Aik Thi Laila’ is a murder mystery and is being directed by her better half, Yasir Hussain. Moreover, this project is different from what viewers have been watching in mainstream media.

The show will only consist of 5-thrilling episodes, each with twists, mysteries, and more. The ‘Jhooti’ actor shared that the spellbinding plot will be the epicenter and will not be dragged. ‘Aik Thi Laila’ featuring Iqra Aziz, Faysal Quraishi, Gul-e-Rana, Hasan Ahmed, Nayyar Ejaz, Faiza Iftikhar, and Fareeha Jabeen, is the first project of the celebrity couple who are always in the spotlight.

Throughout the conversation, Aziz shared a lot about her journey to stardom.

She revealed that she had been acting since the age of 14 and that she owes credit to big names in the industry who have helped her work on her expressions given that she never went to acting school. When Iqra Aziz was asked about who is her favourite co-star, she named her hubby Yasir.

Moreover, she recalled her on-screen with Farhan Saeed in the hit drama serial ‘Suno Chanda’ along with the rest of the amazing cast has also contributed to her success. That’s not all, she seconded her husband’s opinion that Turkish dramas can destroy the local industry.

She will also star in ‘Sanwal Yaar Pyaar’ alongside Feroze Khan and Imran Ashraf.

Iqra Aziz Talks About Age Difference in Marriage, & Growing up in Saddar

Pakistani actress Iqra Aziz sat down for an interview with FUCHSIA Magazine. She shed light on multiple subjects such as her childhood spent in the streets of Saddar in a close-knit neighbourhood, age difference in marriage and much more.

Aziz has been away from the screen lately, but we remember her as a promising actor who has delivered hits after hits due to her raw talent and excellence in craft.

Aziz revealed that her father passed away at the age of 12. Her mother, who was now single, worked, which left Aziz on her own, doing things for herself, which helped nurture her confidence. She attended a convent school in Saddar, where she had to walk to get on a bus and from the bus to school every day.

Her commute back was similar, but she was home alone, unlike other kids. She often prepared food for herself, such as roti and chawal, as her mother had already prepared the curry before leaving for work. It was tough, but it taught her important life lessons.

She shared, “I grew up going out into the streets in Ramazan and playing on rides because the area is so busy. I have spent my life there, and my mother and grandmother had also lived their whole lives in the area. We lived there for over 30 years. Everyone knew us… I am so thankful that I got to live that life. I have seen that phase. I know how to be street smart and I know how to deal with people. I know how to conduct myself when I go out into the crowd.”

There is an 11-year-old gap between Iqra and Yasir. The host asked Iqra what benefits it would serve to marry an older person. Aziz replied that obviously, with age comes experience, and you are at liberty to learn from them. She said these experiences have groomed her and had made her a better person. It is not about depending on them but the advice they can give over matters they have come across and experienced before.

Iqra Aziz Attends Live Stand-Up Training on Sexual Harassment by L’Oréal Paris led by American Actress Eva Longoria at the Dubai Expo 2020

Pakistani actress, Iqra Aziz attended live stand-up training at the Dubai Expo 2020 by L’Oreal Paris in collaboration with Hollaback. The actress discussed sexual harassment with American actress Eva Longoria. 

This was the first time the actress had made her way to the Dubai Expo 2020 since its launch and represented Pakistan on the international forum. Aziz was dressed for the event in a classic royal blue blazer and paired it with sleek curls. Eva on the other hand also put up a suit with a baby pink shirt.

 The Khuda Aur Mohabbat star attended the session led by Eva who explained the 5D methodology to combat sexual harassment in public spaces.

Iqra captioned her thread of photos she uploaded on Instagram,” Had the honor of attending a live Stand-Up training at the Dubai Expo; organized by L’Oréal Paris in collaboration with Hollaback”.

“I got to meet Eva Longoria who led the session and explained the 5D methodology to combat sexual harassment in public spaces,” added Iqra.

A survey was conducted by L’Oréal Paris, in collaboration with researchers from Cornell University and Ipsos, that studied wide-scale harassment via online interviews with 15,000 participants. As per the survey, 80% of women have experienced sexual harassment in public spaces and 76 % of women have experienced sexual harassment in public places worldwide.

What does 5D Methodology Stand for?

L’Oréal Paris’s live Stand Up training program has been launched in partnership with the NGO Hollaback. It aims to train 1 million people who are bystanders to intervene and help curb street harassment.

The 5D stands for:

  • Direct
  • Distract
  • Delegate
  • Document
  • Delay

The program reiterates Loreal’s commitment to “ending street sexual harassment and transforming the culture that perpetuates the behavior and discrimination,” – the goal is to discourage and curb harassment and promote safe ‘bystander intervention.

Mathira Lashes out at Faysal Qureshi for Sexist Remarks on Iqra Aziz

Pakistani VJ and media personality, Mathira has come forward and expressed her concern regarding a statement made by Pakistani actor Faysal Qureshi during an interview with BBC Urdu hosted by host Barak Shabir.

Mathira who often expresses herself on her Instagram took it to the same medium to lash out at the actor for not appreciating women for multitasking. She questioned why the actor thinks that fellow female actors exhaust their career’s after getting married and having kids.

Mathira wrote on her Instagram story, “One should appreciate a woman doing multitasking. Why is it a woman’s career goes down the drain if they [get married] and have kids?”

She added, “It’s pretty sad to hear a statement like this!”

During the interview, the actor expressed how it was more difficult for women to work while taking care of their kids. He mentioned Sunita Marshall, Shaista Lodhi, Savera Nadeem, and Iqra Aziz to state examples. 

He said, “Women are burdened a lot more. Men say they are running the house, but the women do the actual work. Even if she is, she is an actor, she’ll be looking at the kids and groceries and whatnot at the same time.”

He also pointed out Iqra Aziz’s case, who recently became a mother. He said, “This is an issue with female actors, they work fine until they are married. Even if you look at Iqra [Aziz], you notice how she’s taken on less work ever since she had a baby. She is a phenomenal actor.”

Qureshi, concerned about her, questioned Iqra about why she was not working as much as she was. “When I asked her why she told me she had to take care of her child.” He compared her husband’s situation on the other side, “Yasir [Hussain] is banging out projects one after the other.”

All in all, we think Qureshi didn’t mean to say anything derogatory regarding the actresses turned mothers. He instead tried to point out how women’s careers suffer even if supposedly men believe that they are the one’s running the house because, in reality, women are doing more.

While being interviewed by BBC Urdu’s host Barak Shabir, the star said he thinks that women in the showbiz work just fine until they get married and, later, have children. “I think it’s because women end up getting married and taking care of their children.”

Feroze Khan Says “People Should Marry More Than Once Because it’s Sunnah”

Feroze Khan has been making headlines for the past month now. At first, he supported Furhad, a toxic character he played in his latest drama serial alongside Iqra Aziz, Khuda aur Mohabbat.

Now, he has supported polygamy openly on Ahsan Khan’s talk show, Time out with Ahsan Khan. He was invited alongside his sister, Humaima Malik on the show – both were busy answering questions segment after segment. Then came a point where Feroze left his fans hanging.

In response to a question asked by Ahsan during a segment, Khan said that he should have gotten married earlier because marriage is such a learning experience. He then added, it shouldn’t be done just once but more times such as our Prophet.

His statement has since then left the internet divided.  “Men tou abhi bacha tha mujhe itni jaldi shaadi nae karni chaiye thi (I was just a kid I should not have married so early),” said Ahsan, to which Feroze replied, “No no, I should have married even sooner. And I feel because you get to learn so much from marriage, and because it’s Sunnah, people should marry more than once.”

Feroze Khan is happily married to Syeda Alizey Fatima Raza. The two tied the knot not too long ago in 2018.

Just recently, Khan had called out Malala on her statement over marriage. He called her a “western puppet” for questioning the institute of marriage. Khan also praised Riz Ahmed for his stance of #MusliminFilms where Muslims aren’t raising the star on his Instagram Feroze wrote, “lol, get ready to be called tableeghi and what not. But don’t stop bro, proud!”

Feroze Khan Defends Toxic Traits of his Character in Khuda aur Mohabbat 3

Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3, starring Iqra Aziz and Feroze Khan, has become a popular drama serial and a massive success in a brief span of time. Currently, the drama is trending on social media and has crossed 50m views on YouTube, beating Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s Mere Pass Tum Ho.

The audience is thoroughly enjoying the drama serial owing to brilliant performances by the actors and, of course, a great, well-balanced, interesting narrative, albeit a toxic character. Recently, Feroze Khan was asked by senior journalist Haroon Rashid of BBC of his character, Farhad and his toxic traits, to which the actor got defensive. However, he said, “There is nothing toxic about Farhad.”

In the drama serial, we see Farhad misinterpreting Mahi’s kindness and becoming a stalker, pursuing her even after she has clearly expressed her disapproval. Feroze said a ‘No’ in our society is often taken up as a challenge by men, so naturally in his understanding, his character is a good man, a good man who just fell in love.

He then said, “Farhad was being stalked by Mahi. First, she gave him the importance had eye contacts with them and then further shows him that she trusts him by sharing a secret. All this made Farhad think that Mahi is showing interest in him, making him feel and assume a connection between the two.”

Haroon then said maybe he could give Farhad ‘the benefit of the doubt’. Khan replied, “Don’t even give him the benefit of the doubt; Farhad is a good guy, and that is it, end of discussion.”

100 Handcrafted Prayers with Embellishments & Zardozi Work Written in Iqra Aziz’s Godh Bharai Dupatta

Pakistani actress Iqra Aziz and Yasir Hussain are going to become parents soon. The couple announced the news on Instagram that they are expecting their first child in July this year, along with pictures of the couple at their godh bharai rasam.

People noticed that Iqra’s dupatta wasn’t any ordinary one. It had 100 prayers stitched in Urdu with embellishments and zardozi work by designer Fahad Hussayn and team. We have previously seen Zara Shah Jahan do something similar for Bukhtawar Bhutto, which made us think this is the new trend in town.

In an insta post, the designer congratulates the couple: “ Sau Duaien” is specially curated with lots of love to celebrate Iqra Aziz (an actor & a very dear friend) motherhood. 100 handcrafted prayers with embellishments and zardozi work have been written on the dupatta! With lots of love & prayers, May God protects you from evil eyes.

The designer told a local publication that the actress had requested something that she can pass on to her child. Fahad thought of the concept of putting 100 duaas on the dupatta, which Iqra worked with her husband and mother.

The prayers stitched on dupattas include “logon ke saath bhalai karo gay toh log bhi tumharay saath bhalai karein gay” (be kind to others, and they will be kind to you) and “ilm sub say bari daulat hai” (knowledge is the greatest wealth).

Pakistani actors Mahira Khan, Imran Ali Abbasi, Iqra Aziz, Maya Ali, Faysal Quraishi, among others, are standing up for their rights and others in the fraternity by promoting #GiveRoyaltiestoArtists.

Many years ago, artists, writers, and other individuals in the creative process of films or dramas would be handed out royalties if these dramas or film returned to the screen. However, the same exchange of royalties has been discontinued for a long time.

The Pakistani entertainment industry has evolved as we know it and long-forgotten of the royalties.

Nayla Jaffri, a Pakistani veteran actress, started the conversation when she was struggling with her medical bills that pilled up due to cancer.

Now, artists who are popular and their demands hold count in the industry are asking for royalties, so when their project repeats on screen, big or small, they are paid an amount. Just as any network would benefit from the repetition of the programs or the film, artists also have the right to do so.

Actress Kubra Khan also highlighted the matter. She said: Not Just actors. Writers, musicians, directors.. and soo many more… In the passing years. We’ve seen some of our seniors who have ruled the industry request respect when it should’ve been their Right. Some rules and regulations set a well-run system, and it’s high time we implement them so that our industry can run as smoothly as it should. Every artist deserves that.

So many more artists have since then taken up this challenge and demand royalties for the fraternity.
