Urwa Hocane Speaks Her Mind After Being Called ‘Difficult to Work With’

A couple of days ago, a clip of Director Nadeem Baig started to go viral for calling actress Urwa Hocane someone ‘difficult to work with’.

The viral clip was from the talk show ‘The Fourth Umpire’ in which the director was asked which actress was the most difficult to work with on set, and he revealed it was Urwa Hocane.

Urwa Hocane was one of the main characters in Baig’s 2017 hit movie ‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’ starring Mehwish Hayat and Humayun Saeed.

Urwa Hocane Responds to Nadeem Baig

On Friday, Hocane responded to Baig’s statement in a post in which she shared her two cents about the statement. She wrote:

‘Nadeem bhai and I have only done one project together and had one difference of opinion about the song ‘Lak Hilna’ where we eventually went with his aesthetics, choice of song and dance step as I sensed he was unwilling to hold a discussion probably because as a society we have become so intolerant to the difference of opinion, especially when it’s a woman.’

Urwa Hocane revealed that she was heavily trolled since his statement on the show and has never thrown him under the bus out of respect for the reputed film director.

‘Despite being extremely trolled for the song I never threw my director under the bus out of respect for him. I am so hurt with how my personality is being misrepresented publicly merely for holding a healthy discussion on set which I believe is a basis to team work while in all these years it was never pointed out to me in person.’ She added.

Other celebs including her husband, Farhan Saeed, and sister Mawra Hocane applauded her post.

Urwa made her acting debut in 2012 with the drama serial “Meri Ladli.” Her performance in the drama was highly appreciated, and she received critical acclaim for her role.

Since then, she has appeared in several other dramas, including “Kahi Un Kahi,” “Madiha Maliha,” “Marasim,” and “Udaari.” Urwa’s ability to portray a variety of characters with ease has made her one of the most sought-after actresses in the industry.

Urwa made her film debut in 2014 with the romantic-comedy “Na Maloom Afraad.” Her performance in the film was praised, and she received a Lux Style Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Since then, Urwa has appeared in several other films, including “Rangreza,” “Punjab Nahi Jaungi,” and “Kaaf Kangana.” She has also ventured into production and has produced the film “Tich Button.”

Farhan Saeed Spills the Beans on Feroze Khan & Sonya Hussyn’s Absence from Tich Button Promotions

Urwa Hocane was extremely excited to introduce Tich Button as her production debut, however, not too long after trouble started to stir.

While Feroze Khan is battling a legal case for divorce and children custody, Sonya Hussayn is also missing from the Tich Button promotions.

Moreover, Sonya Hussayn sent Urwa Hocane a legal notice of overdue payments. In the legal statement dated October 22, Hussayn’s legal team stated to Images that she (Urwa)  “entered into contractual relations” with their client. “Under express terms and conditions”, she agreed to pay the actress (Sonya) a certain amount upon completion of the shooting, which began on February 2, 2020 and ended on June 5, the same year.

But, Urwa Hocane, in an interview claimed that she was unaware of the legal notice and that there was indeed some misunderstanding from Hussayn’s side.

“I am not aware that Sonya Hussyn has sent any notice to me, I mean I am just a call away, we have been shooting the film for so long that many things might happen. We should speak to each other and find out, I am sure there should be some misunderstanding, we all are mature enough and can resolve issues, why sabotage a project like this? I am also worried about such a notice, it’s not like that, she’s been a team, and I know the process has become longer but we understand and will address this misunderstanding, maybe Sonya Hussyn would have called me.” -Urwa Hocane

Sonya Hussayn Sends Legal Notice to Urwa Hocane Over ‘Tich Button’ Payment Dues

While that is still a mystery, Hocane’s ex-husband Farhan Saeed who is also a part of Tich Button has spilt the beans about the absence of his co-stars from promotions.

Farhan Saeed said, “they are an integral part of the film, at the trailer launch, Sonya didn’t appear because she was a Toronto for awards, and Feroze Khan was absent from promotions because he was in Saudi Arabia for the Umrah, I even said to Qasim, ‘we should ask Feroze to pray for film’s success, I wish they join us in in future promotion but they worked beautifully.”

Farhan retorted, “Problems are in every project. I can’t agree with the thing that a project doesn’t have any problem let me tell you every project has issues, especially in films, however, I would say that you should own the project wholeheartedly. If you ask me, there are zero regrets and hard feelings, every one has his own career choices and graphs.

Sonya Hussayn Sends Legal Notice to Urwa Hocane Over ‘Tich Button’ Payment Dues

Actress Sonya Hussayn has reportedly sent actor and ‘Tich Button’ producer Urwa Hocane a legal notice. The notice highlights a breach in the contract as the newly debuted producer failed to make the actor’s payment.

In the legal notice dated October 22, Hussayn’s legal team stated to Images that she (Urwa)  “entered into contractual relations” with their client. “Under express terms and conditions”, she agreed to pay the actress (Sonya) a certain amount upon completion of the shooting, which began on February 2, 2020 and ended on June 5, the same year.

The notice states that even though Sonya performed her part of the contract “in exceptional circumstances” such as the outbreak of Covid-19, she was not paid her due “despite repeated requests and reminders” accounting for a “breach in the contract”.

Moreover, the legal team added that “in stark convention and blatant violation of contract”, the Meri Shehzadi actor “fraudulently” attempted to pay Hussyn Rs500,000. The Mohabbat Tujhe Alvida actor returned that cheque and “unequivocally refuses to be a prey of [Urwa’s] fraudulent scheme,” according to the notice. Sonya is demanding the payment agreed upon in the contract which is “still outstanding”.

Hussayn demanded Rs5 million for “general damages” on account of “distress, dismay, mental torture, humiliation and embarrassment” within 14 days of the receipt of the notice for the “undesirable and unwanted circumstances” created by Urwa.

Upon failure, Sonya has further instructed her team to “institute civil and criminal legal provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code, 1860 for criminal breach of trust, cheating, fraud and misrepresentation” and file a civil suit in court and seek recovery of payment, general damages and attachment of Urwa’s immoveable and moveable assets.

We have now to see how Urwa Hocane replies to Sonya Hussayn and whether or not she is able to pay-off the alleged amount she owes the actress.

Urwa Hocane’s Character ‘Dania’ in ‘Meri Shehzadi’ is inspired by Princess Diana

Urwa Hocane and Ali Rehman Khan’s upcoming drama on HUM TV titled ‘Meri Shehzadi’ has grabbed social media’s attention.

Speculations have taken over the internet stating that Urwa’s character ‘Dania’ is inspired by the late ‘Princess Diana’.

Moreover, in the ‘Meri Shehzadi’ teaser we hear her co-star Ali Rehman say:

I’m from a political family and I am married to a political figure who is the so-called ‘Diana of Pakistan’.

Further on, in another dialogue, we hear Atiqa Odho say:

Itna acha laagta hai ‘Diana’ keh ke, I feel like Queen Elizebeth.

That is not the only resemblance the drama has hinted at. From the teaser, we can see that Dania (Urwa Hocane) is a simple girl belonging to a tragedy-struck house eventually marrying royalty.

She is also a politician cum philanthropist with a heart of gold who loves helping others just like how others have described Princess Diana.

In the end, Urwa quotes a powerful line that automatically makes of think of the late Princess. She says ‘Mujhe humesha se mahalon ka nahin, dilon main rehna ka shauk tha.’

Coming to teaser 2, we can once again see glimpses of love, anguish, tragedy, anger, and so many other emotions as we get to understand that Ali Rehman is cheating on her with another woman and refers to her as his ‘need’ whereas the other woman is his ‘love’.

It’s about time that we need to portray strong female figures and Meri Shehzadi is filled with these messages, where the viewers will learn along the way,” – Urwa Hocane

 

From the teasers, we already know that we will be glued to the TV screen! The drama has been penned by the renowned writer, well known for ‘Pyaar ke Sadqay’, Zanjabeel Asim Shah, and directed by ‘Mere Humsafar’s director, Qasim Ali Mureed.

Pakistan’s Drama Industry has Romanticized Abuse & Harassment of Women: Urwa Hocane

In a recent interview with GlossETC, Pakistani actress Urwa Hocane shared her two cents about how she firmly believes that the drama industry has openly romanticized the abuse and harassment of women.

She goes on to share that the deep-rooted patriarchal system, misogyny, and apologetic attitude of parents when a girl is born as well as aggressive notions grilled into her from the very beginning.

The conversation started with the question if Urwa was happy with the roles she was playing on-screen to which the actress replied, “no”.

She quoted:

Ab nobat ye aagayi hai kea ap ke pas jo bach bach ke 10 ya 15 scripts aati hai, aap kehte ho ke in main se jo thora bhaitar hai na aur jis ki team aisi hai ke hum set pe ‘isko bacha leinge’ ap woh wala karlete ho because I don’t know what the writers are writing and what the content teams are making them write, and what the channels are making them write, it breaks my heart.

I mean yeah sure I should be brutal, agar ap child abuse pe drama banao- I still remember when I did Udaari, even though we were educating children and their families that if something like this were to happen then how do you get out of it, we received multiple notices from PEMRA. Jab aap screen pe aj kal ye dekhate ho na ke ek mian biwi ek dusre se mohabbat karte hai aur uno ne ek dusre ka hath pakra hai ya koi aisi cheez, letter aajate hai PEMRA ke.

Meaningful cheez aap karte hai aur aapko letter ajate hai. Mujhe bataye ke iss waqt jo humare angry, full of anger heroes chal rahe hai jo jab tak aapke baal nahi keechte toh aapko unse mohababt nahin hoti, yeh who walay heroes hai jo apko harass kar rahe hote hai universities main, end main aapko usi ki harassment se mohabbat hojati ha ke ‘uss ne mujhe chera tha, who hai na mera raasta roz rokta tha’… what are we teaching?

Aur younger larkay aur younger larkiyan isey kya seekh rahi hai? Ke jo apka raasta rokta hai jo apke bazu pakar leta hai aur jo apko kehta hai ‘agar meri baath nahi suni main tumari jaan lelunga’ who hero hai?

Aap ne harassment ko, app ne domestic abuse ko, aap ne domestic violence ko, for that matter aap ne marital rape ko bhi kahin na kahin romanticize karlia hai… have you all lost your minds?

Aur jo larki kuch nahin bol rahi aap unko heroine bana rahe hai, toh kya seekh rahi hai aapki youger generation?

Yar can we please sit down and ponder upon this? Who larki sekh rahi hai ke kch nahin bolna, ab bas rote rehna hai dharay mar mar ke. So, ab nobat ye agayi hai ke jab mujhe scripts aati hai na main humesha kehti hoon, acha konsa wala hai jo zyada buri chezein project nahin kar raha? Jo meri values ko zyada taang nahin kar raha aur who jo ek doh chezein hai who main director se discuss kar ke thora sa … iss hadh par toh paunch gaye hai as far as this creative medium is concerned.

Main nahi keh rahi ke  aap sabak parhana shuru kar de, nobody is saying that, because I know a lot of people are going to say this is entertainment.

I recently did a drama where one of the producers, there was a situation and I said ‘she wont cry here, now she should stand up for herself, 10 episodes se she has cried enough,’ its just a creative discussion that you’re having, and eventually the team agreed and achi chezein bhi hoti hai, aisi baath nahin hai, but one of the producers said, ‘rating aati hai rating, dharay mar mar ke rona chaye, rating dekho na kitni ayegi,’ and I am just looking at them and I’m like… I don’t know how to respond to this anymore… it’s like… am I giving up?

Urwa goes on to say that while most of these stories do portray what is happening all around us, it is vital to show how a woman is strong and powerful enough to get herself out of these situations, instead of getting justice in the 40th episode, she needs to get the willpower from the 4th episode if not the first.

She adds that a middle ground needs to be found where the writers and channels can get their ratings without compromising on what the artists are teaching the younger generation.

Pakistani actor Aijaz Aslam has revealed shocking details about actress Urwa Hocane during an interview where he was invited with his wife, Sabeen.

Often, celebrities reveal inside gossip and shocking facts about the entertainment industry during candid interviews. Something similar happened with actor Aijaz Aslam when he was invited to The Couple Show hosted by Aagha Ali and Hina Altaf alongside his wife, Sabeen.

On being asked about a leading lady who has attitude problems, is unprofessional, and needs to work on her behavior, the Nand star gave a shocking answer. He named Urwa Hocane.

He said he’d taken Urwa’s name only because he has often heard this from her industry friends. It is pertinent to mention that Aijaz hadn’t worked with Urwa himself and was not present on set to witness her behavior. “Although I haven’t worked with her, I have heard (from friends and colleagues) that it is Urwa; she gets very angry on the sets, quickly loses her temper, and even instructs the director on creative aspects.”

He later crossed paths with her at the Tich Button event and didn’t feel any of this was true. He felt like she was grounded. The film is Urwa’s first venture as a producer, featuring Farhan Saeed, Iman Aly, Sonya Hussayn, and Feroze Khan, which may release anytime soon now that cinemas are now fully operational again.

We reached out to Urwa Hocane for a comment. The star has said that the allegations circulating about her all over social media are baseless.

I respect all my seniors in the fraternity including their opinions and advice but they too have a responsibility towards their younger counterparts & the effect their words can have on someone’s image, mind and even work.

In all honesty, I am a creatively charged person which I proudly accept. And yes, I always indulge in healthy discussions with my directors or producers.

I am sure he didn’t intend to harm me and didn’t realize how much it could blow out of proportion as i don’t know him in a personal capacity or have not even been co star with him in a single production .

Irresponsible statements can often leave us at a mercy of internet trolls, therefore everyone must watch what they say in public about someone else especially when it’s mere hearsay .

I’m also thankful to my other colleagues, Agha and Hina, who immediately understood the gravity of the matter & didn’t become party to it .

Khalil-ur-Rehman Says, Mahira Khan’s Tweet Against Him was a “Nasty Remark”

The Mere Pass Tum Ho writer, Khalil ur Rehman appeared in a talk show with Vasay Chaudhry hosting the program. The two had an elaborate discussion on many controversies and scandals that followed the ill-famed writer after he burst out on National tv on journalist Marvi Sirmed with cuss words.

One such controversy happened when Khalil ur Rehman’s clip was circulating on social media. In the clip, Rehman called out Adnan Malik a ‘Hijra’. Pakistani actress, Mahira Khan tweeted after the writer commented on Adnan Malik.  She said on the micro-blogging site, “I am shocked at what I have just heard and seen!! Sick to the core.”

She was extremely upset and questioned why this man (Khalil-ur-Rehman) is given project after project? A man with such thinking shouldn’t be allowed to openly promote hate against women in any form. She added, “This same man who abused a woman on tv is revered and given project after project because of what? We are as much to blame if not more for perpetuating this thinking!”

Adnan Malik also expressed his views about the writer

Rehman didn’t respond to the actress then, but he finally opened up about it with Vasay Chaudhry. He said,

“My relationship with Mahira Khan is of utmost respect. I respect her immensely and she used to respect me a lot too. For me, it was a nasty remark when she tweeted against me. I was startled. She could have called me and addressed her concerns with me personally, so I could have explained to myself what had happened and that I didn’t mean it.”

News of Farhan Saeed and Urwa Hocane‘s separation has made rounds on social media for the past 24 hours now. Fans are in a state of shock, and so were other celebrities in the industry. A couple who has always flaunted their chemistry in real life and on-screen can’t just separate like that. It was hard to believe, even for us!

While local media outlets sensationalized the news as there was no solid source that backed up the story. People commented as to how the couple looked great together and how their love story was magical! There is nothing in court, and both are living happily.” Sigh of relief! We thought we were going to witness another nightmare.

 Farhan Saeed and Urwa Hocane have been married for 3 years now. The couple has appeared on the screen a few times and dazzled the audiences with their chemistry. There is no doubt in saying that both of them have become fan favorites.
