Well-known designer Maria B took a recent visit to the setup going by the name Palestine Cuisine and took a bite at the Falafel Wrap, Labneh with Zaatar Wrap, toasted cheese mortadella, falafel and hummus, Layali Lubun, and Kurat Joz Al-Hind.

Meet Eman- a Palestinian woman who is on her entrepreneurial journey in Karachi. From her home kitchen near the city’s tourist spot at Karachi Beach, this home-based chef has opened a window for dessert lovers to the food streets of Palestine.

The food business of Eman and her two daughters is solely focused on desserts and the menu includes kunafa, layali libnan, katayef, muhalabiya, and basbusa. Orders are placed on their WhatsApp number shared on their Instagram page named ‘Palestinesweets.pk’

Eman has lived in several countries and travelled across the globe, but she has chosen Pakistan for her business and is quite happy with the response she has received so far. Her signature dish ‘kunafa’ is a fan favourite. Her first post was uploaded in March 2023 (which can be seen as the starting point of her business).

Eman has also been featured on Osamah Nasir – an Instagram blogger who has been exploring Karachi’s food scene.

Palestine Sweets

On the Instagram page, the chef shares bits of videos explaining the making of several of her desserts. From presentation to the texture of the dish, everything is so on point. Those who have tried the delicious desserts have become a fan of the shop, wanting more and more.

There has been an uptick in home-based businesses in Pakistan. After the COVID-19 pandemic, several people have permanently moved their businesses inside the safe walls of their houses. Orders are received through WhatsApp or social media platforms and the delivery is made. While the prices vary, they start from Rs1,000 (according to the menu shared on the shop’s Instagram page).

Eman’s story is that of courage and finding a new home. Palestine itself is close to people’s hearts, and anything from that land is supposed to receive love and appreciation.

Pakistan is a great spot for Eman mostly because Middle Eastern cuisine is quite popular here. People who have lived a considerable part of their childhood in the Middle East also find Eman’s desserts as a portal to the nostalgic world of sun-kissed days in the region they once called home.

But the dishes are not for people with a specific taste or a particular history, the dishes will leave all people with a sweet tooth craving for more!

Here’s How Pakistanis Can Donate to the People of Palestine

For more than fifty years, the Palestinian population in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza have become victims of significant challenges including the availability, accessibility, and quality of healthcare, water, food, aid and other basic necessities.

The healthcare system in particular for these regions faces numerous difficulties, primarily due to limited freedom of movement resulting from the presence of checkpoints, the separation wall, a strict permit system, and the blockade and closure of Gaza.

Consequently, patients throughout the occupied Palestinian territories often encounter obstacles when seeking the necessary medical treatment and care. Additionally, the movement of healthcare professionals aiming to enhance their skills and the transportation of crucial medical equipment may be perceived as a security risk.

In 2021, the United Nations (UN) identified over 1.45 million Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories (oPt) who were in need of humanitarian health assistance. Among these, approximately two-thirds were situated in Gaza, with the remaining one-third located in the West Bank.

Pakistanis for Palestine

On Wednesday, an announcement was made that Egypt will be allowed to provide restricted humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip. According to White House representatives, the aid distribution is scheduled to commence on Friday, with initial provisions including only 20 trucks carrying essential items like food, water, and other supplies, allowed to enter Gaza through the Rafah border crossing.

As of Thursday, the blockade of Palestine has entered its 13th day, and the resources in Gaza are depleting rapidly. To offer support to the people of Palestine, we have compiled a list of organizations through which individuals in Pakistan can provide assistance.

Al Khidmat Foundation

The Al Khidmat Foundation has collaborated with Turkish entities such as the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, Hayrat Foundation, and Cansuyu Association to direct the financial contributions gathered in Pakistan towards Gaza. You can contribute by making online donations through their website or in person at their office, and all transactions are conducted in rupees.

Palestine Children’s Relief Funds

The Palestine Children Relief Fund has dedicated teams in Gaza actively providing vital medical relief and humanitarian aid, ultimately saving lives. They are open to receiving financial contributions to support more than a million children in Gaza who require immediate care. You have the option to make online donations using credit cards in US dollars.

Palestine Red Cresent Society

The Gaza-based hospitals operated by the Palestine Red Crescent Society are offering vital medical care to injured Palestinians. To support their efforts, you can make online donations in US dollars via their website, but please note that a Mastercard or Visa card is required for contributions.

Doctors Without Borders

Doctors Without Borders is a non-partisan, autonomous humanitarian medical organization that has dedicated over two decades to serving Gaza.

They have been actively engaged in a reconstructive surgery initiative in northern Gaza. Currently, there are 300 dedicated individuals from the organisation working on-site in Gaza.

They are appealing for financial support to furnish the people of Gaza with vital medical and humanitarian provisions. Donations in US dollars can be made using Mastercard or Visa cards on their website.

Islamic Relief Worldwide

Islamic Relief, a UK-based humanitarian and development agency motivated by faith, has been actively delivering humanitarian aid in the Occupied Palestinian Territory since 1997. Your contribution will enable the agency to collaborate with the local community in delivering essential assistance. They are in need of financial support, which can be provided through bank cards on their website.

Vogue Magazine Adds Back ‘Palestine’ to Gigi Hadid’s Instagram Post After Backlash

American monthly fashion and lifestyle magazine, Vogue has added back ‘Palestine’ after the magazine received slack online from the users for removing it from a post about Gigi Hadid’s donation. The Palestinian model had donated her fashion month earnings towards relief efforts in Ukraine as well as continued her support relief efforts in Palestine.

The Vogue Post in Question

On the 7th of March, Vogue Pakistan reported the news about Gigi’s donation. Initially, the post had mentioned ‘Palestine’ in the post. However, later removed as the magazine was accused of ‘fanning the flames of anti-Semitism’. The removal of ‘Palestine’ was quickly picked up by users who called out vogue for doing so. Later, the editor decided to post back the initial caption that mentioned ‘Palestine’.

At the end of the post, the editor left a note which read, “We have updated this caption to accurately reflect Gigi Hadid’s statement on her donation.”

Senior journalist, Mehdi Hasan also objected to Vogue’s actions

“Palestinians have always known that our very existence, our identity is deemed threatening,” tweeted a user.

“It’s unethical journalism to change an individual’s quote,” tweeted a user

Some users believe that Vogue’s decision to remove the word ‘Palestine’ from its Instagram post had something to do with the platform’s reach which often drops drastically once the word ‘Palestine’ is used.

Hadid had announced the news on her Instagram. She wrote, “Having a set Fashion Month schedule has meant that my colleagues and I often present new fashion collections during heartbreaking and traumatic times in history. We don’t have control over most of our work schedules, but we would like to walk ‘for’ something.”

She added, “Following in the footsteps of my friend @micarganaraz, I am pledging to donate my earnings from Fall 2022 shows to aid those suffering from the war in Ukraine, as well as continuing to support those experiencing the same in Palestine. Our eyes and hearts must be open to all human injustice. May we all see each other as brothers and sisters, beyond politics, beyond race, beyond religion. At the end of the day, innocent lives pay for the war, not leaders.

Israeli defence forces have been attacking Palestinian Muslims with full force for more than a week now. Social media is filled with clips and posts of Palestinian’s suffering at the hands of the Israelian army. People across the world have been raising their voice against the brutality of Israel taking place in Jerusalem.

So much, so that social media sites started censoring content related to Palestine and Israel. People who were sharing the news and posts daily in abundance also noticed the reach of their posts dropping significantly over the past few days. However, they kept going strong regardless of all odds, and finally, the power of their efforts and, of course, social media is visible now.

Following are 8 things that prove that your voice in support of Palestine is being heard on social media:

1 – UK Activists Shut Down a Key Site of Israeli Drone Production in the UK

In a show of global solidarity, Pro-Palestinian activists shut down a factory operated by UAV Tactical Systems in the city of Leicester. One of the four activists, Ferhat Ulusu, who scaled the factory, said, “All the politicians, especially Boris Johnson, who is taking the Palestinian genocide lightly, are complicit.”

Other than the 4 activities, heaps of groups took part in the protest outside the factory on the ground. A message delivered to MEE said,  “Everyone who keeps silent is complicit. (Time) to shut Elbit down now. Enough is enough.”

2 – Italian Port Workers Refuse to Load Shipment of Arms Headed to Israel

Dockworkers from the Italian base union of USB operating at the port of Livorno in northern Tuscany found out that a load of shipment of arms was headed to Israel. The port workers refused to load the shipment as they didn’t want to become an accomplice in the massacre of the Palestinian people.

In a statement, the L’Unione Sindacale di Base (USB) said, “The port of Livorno will not be an accomplice in the massacre of the Palestinian people.”

3 – Kuwait Announces 10 years Jail & Fine for those who Support Israel on Social Media/Real life

In a first, the Kuwaiti government announces 10 years of jail time and a fine of 5,000 Dirham for people who support Israel in real life or on social media. The news was shared by Capital Markets Advisor, Investment Banker, and Entrepreneur Mir Mohammad Alikhan on the micro-blogging site. He said,  My Salute To Kuwaiti Government: Kuwait announces a law where anyone supporting Israel in real life or the social media from within Kuwait will be imprisoned for 10 years and a fine of KD 5000. ”

The Prime Minister of Kuwaiti strongly affirmed Kuwait’s principles by setting this newly formed law. The country holds a position supporting Palestinian, and they have the right people to obtain their rights. The region holds a central historical and pivotal position in the Arab and Islamic worlds.

4 – Pakistan Turkey come together to raise the Palestine issue at UNGA jointly

Prime Ministers of Pakistan and Turkey will come together and raise the issue of Palestine in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has spoken with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz on this sensitive issue.

Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mehmood Qureshi earlier said that both Pakistan and Turkey have come together and decided to move this issue to the United Nations with harmony among the Muslim Ummah. This urgent meeting of the UN General Assembly will be set to“stop the horrendous brutalities of Israeli army targeting Palestinians.”

5 – AOC to introduce a bill to block Biden’s weapon’s sale to Israel

Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez and a group of Democratic Party lawmakers led by her have introduced a bill to block the sale of precision-guided munitions to Israel. She said, in a tweet, “The United States should not be rubber-stamping weapons sales to the Israeli government as they deploy our resources to target international media outlets, schools, hospitals, humanitarian missions and civilian sites for the bombing. We have a responsibility to protect human rights.”

6 – Apple Employees Call for the Company to Support Palestinians

An internal letter has been circulating among Apple employees calling out chief executive officer Tim Coll to issue a statement that shows support to the Palestinian people. 1,000 people have signed the letter up till now.

The Muslim employees at Apple Muslim Association have specifically demanded to ask the company to recognize that “millions of Palestinian people currently suffer under an illegal occupation.”

7 – Egypt Sends Medical Aid and Food to Palestine

A spokesperson for the Eqypt presidency said on Facebook, “Egypt will provide 500 million dollars for reconstruction in the Gaza Strip after recent events, with Egyptian companies to carry out the work.”

The shipment of medical aid being sent over to Palestine is worth 14 million Egyptian pounds (890,000 dollars), which includes 65 tons of surgical supplies, including oxygen cylinders, syringes, antibiotics, and ointment for burns, says the Egyptian Minister of Health Hala Zayed.

Besides the medical supplies, 26 trucks of food have also been sent to Palestinian territory. In addition, 50 ambulances were mobilised to transport the wounded.

8 – Google Employees call for the company to Support Palestinians

Google employees have also been circulating a letter just like Aolle singled by 250 employees currently demanding CEO Sundar Pichai to prepare a statement condemning the attack in Palestine by Israel, including “direct recognition of the harm done to Palestinians by the Israeli military and gang violence.”

Pakistani Celebrities Join Pro-Palestine Protest in Karachi to Show Support

In Karachi, thousands of people gathered on the streets today to protest the Israeli war crimes against Palestine. The protests took place in many cities of Pakistan today, where people walked with pro-Palestine slogans that condemned Israel’s heinous crimes and shamed its defenders.

The protest came out after huge crowds came out on streets across the world to protest the Israeli attacks on Palestinians living in Gaza. These protests took place in the US, Australia, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East, with protestors marching with pro-Palestine signs. Among common people, celebrities and influencers also made their way to the protest.

Mahira Khan and Shehryar Munawar

Mahira Khan and Shehryar Munawar were spotted together at the protest with their signs that said, “Free Palestine,” and “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”

Hania Aamir

Hania Aamir was also spotted at the protest draped in the Israeli scarf called keffiyeh — a scarf with the traditional Palestinian print. Her sign said, “We Can’t Breathe Since 1948. Sincerely Palestine.”

Ashraf was spotted with Ayesha Omer at the protest. She took it to her Instagram and said, “ANYONE who supports a stance on this forceful takeover not sparing children, women or even the elderly is a part of the problem.”

Gigi Hadid & Bella Hadid Post Powerful Messages on Social Media in Support of Palestine

Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid have raised their voices against the atrocities of Israel against Palestinians. The supermodels’ father, Mohamed Anwar Hadid, is a Palestinian born to a Muslim family. So naturally, the current suffering of the people of Palestine hits home for the two stars.

The stars took it to their Instagrams, with Gigi holding 66.1 m followers and Bella 41.5 m to inform their following about the true face of this ugly situation. The stars shared powerful posts on the platform to speak about the current genocide at hand that how those who raise their voice for human rights movements cannot stay silent on the issues Palestine-Israel issue. They have to speak up!

Gigi’s post read,  “One cannot advocate for racial inequality, LGBTQ and women’s rights, condemn corrupt and abusive regimes and other injustices, yet choose to ignore the Palestinian oppression. It does not add up. You cannot pick and choose whose human rights matter more.”

On the other hand, Bella’s post read, “Future generations will look back in disbelief and wonder how we allowed the Palestinian suffering to continue for so long. A human tragedy unfolding right in front of our eyes. Politicians stutter neutral words in fear of being reprimanded whilst the world remains silent to avoid offending the wrong people.”

Bella’s post concluded, “History has taught us to speak up. You are either on the right side, or you are not. It’s that simple” Anyone maintaining neutrality in times of moral crisis such as this deserves the darkest place in hell.

The 24-year-old also shared other posts on Instagram that spoke of the same topic.  She captioned the post saying, “There is NO place for this !!! Especially in 2021!!!! it has always been #freepalestine. ALWAYS. I have a lot to say about this, but for now, please read and educate yourself. This is not about religion. This is not about spewing hate on one or the other. This is about Israeli colonization, ethnic cleansing, military occupation, and apartheid over the Palestinian people that has been going on for YEARS!”

“I stand with my Palestinian brothers and sisters, I will protect and support you as best as I can. I LOVE YOU.”

“I have been told my entire life that who I am: a Palestinian woman – is not real. I’ve been told my father does not have a birthplace if he is from Palestine. And I am here to say. Palestine is very much real, and the Palestinian people are here to stay and coexist. As they always have.”

She has posted more posts to spread awareness of the condition of the people of Palestine. The world must recognize the real victims.

Palestine has been witnessing now 54 years of military. If you think Palestinians have been living in peace until now, you haven’t been paying attention.

Malala’s Statement Referring to the Attacks on Palestinians a ‘Conflict’ Has Enraged People

Israeli defense forces have been attacking Palestinian Muslims with full force after violence first erupted in the region. Celebs across the world called out Israel for war crimes and evicting families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

During a crisis such as this, the world looks towards Peace Ambassadors, United Nations, and Nobel Laureates. These authorities and people generally hold an influential voice in the world’s center stage. They are expected to assist in the situation to the best of their capabilities.

Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai’s statement during this crisis wasn’t just delayed but also problematic. She took it to the micro-blogging site and tweeted a carefully drafted tweet: “The violence in Jerusalem – especially against children – is unbearable. This long conflict has cost many children their lives and their futures. Leaders must act immediately – there is no peace when children and civilians are not safe. #AlAqsa” 

People quickly understood that Malala’s ignorant statement is nothing but her tiptoeing the political scenario at her end. They’re calling her out for calling the Israeli atrocities on Palestinians a “conflict”.

The power imbalance between the Israeli defense and Palestinians is vast. While Israeli’s are loaded with powerful war weapons, Palestinians are defending themselves with rocks. Naturally, people came forward to correct Malala and call her out on her ignorance.

“The darkest places in hell are reserved for those who maintain their neutrality in times of moral crisis.”

This is SETTLER COLONIALISM, ETHNIC CLEANSING OF PALESTINIANS, and an APARTHEID

A Genocide

People corrected her tweet, mocked her. This is the version she was supposed to tweet in the first place: The “terrorism” in Jerusalem – against “Muslims” is unbearable. This long “oppression” has cost many Muslims their lives and their futures. Leaders must act immediately. There is no peace when “innocent” civilians are not safe. #AlAqsaUnderAttack

Your influence is global, and using the wrong words could be far more hurtful to the victims than it appears.
