Crooner Hasan Raheem Declares ‘Peechay Hutt’ Aurat March’s Anthem

Pakistani singer Hasan Raheem has declared his popular song ‘Pechay Hutt’ as Aurat March‘s anthem. The crooner took it to Twitter to share his two cents.

In the first tweet, the ‘Nautanki’ singer wrote that he started writing the song from the lyrics ‘rasta choriye ab ham aagaye‘ for Justin Bibis and now it has become the voice of the women of Pakistan. He added that the oppression has to end.

Moreover, he continued that he stands in solidarity with the brave women of Pakistan who are out on the streets to demand their rights and are fighting for gender equality. Adding on that we must listen, we must support, and we must act.

Hasan Raheem concluded the message by writing ‘Dua yehi hai kay Allah sabko apney hifzo amaan main rakhey aur hamey amal karney ki silahiyat day.’

The Aurat March is an annual feminist rally held in Pakistan on International Women’s Day, March 8th. This rally is conducted every year across major cities in an attempt to raise awareness about women’s rights.

However, despite thousands of people joining the pact, there are still many people who oppose this movement. This time around, things got a bit messy as the women and transgender individuals in the Lahore protest were injured.

Moreover, a group of men chanting ‘mard march’ also created a negative environment. Nonetheless, this did not break the spirit of the protesters. They went on with complete energy, zeal and zest.

While there were several pros and cons of Aurat March 2023, we wanted to highlight a few that took over social media.

The beauty of Aurat March has always been the men who have supported this cause. Men of all ages came out to show their support for the women in their families, and for the women of Pakistan.

SHC Rejects Petition to Ban ‘Aurat March’, Slaps Fine on Petitioner

The Sindh High Court has rejected a petition pleading to ban the annual ‘Aurat March’ rally. The purpose of the rally is to raise awareness about women’s rights in an attempt to promote equality and embrace equity.

While the march takes place on International Women’s Day every year, this time around it will be held on 12th March, while a conference will take place tomorrow, 8th March.

Bisma Noreen alias Ameer Jahan, filed the petition in court, stating that the Aurat March should be banned as slogans raised by the rally participants “are against the values of Pakistani society”.

However, after hearing arguments the initial arguments, the court observed that there was nothing objectionable in the slogans highlighted by the petitioner. Moreover, the court added that the Constitution of Pakistan grants freedom of movement to all citizens.

Furthermore, the court directed Bisma Noreen to pay Rs. 25,000 as a fine, and instructed NADRA to block the petitioner’s national identity card in case of non-payment of the amount.

The court added that the attempt to ban ‘Aurat March’ was just an attempt to gain publicity as no substantial argument was presented by the petitioner. Moreover, the court said the petitioner was not an aggrieved party in the case.

Media Clears the Air: Propaganda Set Against Aurat March, Doctored Videos & Clips Go Viral

It has been a few days since Aurat March has concluded. The country should be conversing over the rights of women. Instead of finding solutions and empowering women further, propaganda was set up to defame the movement. It isn’t for the first time this has happened, for the past three years, either before Aurat March or after it, something or the other is picked and then scrutinized.

Use of Religion to Cause a Stir Against Aurat March

This time around, the perpetrators used the religion card. Changes were made of audio in videos to generate religious emotions and spread hatred against the movement. The accusation of blasphemy was called out on social media. Misinformation regarding the march was also spread by the anchors, journalists, and analysts. It was not someone who made the accusations unintentionally but in considerable frequency which only proved that this was a well-thought-out plan.

For instance, this banner in the tweet below is about child abuse but it was impersonated as such that it seemed like blasphemy

This was no joke. We all know how people go down in this country for blasphemy. By doctoring the videos, this person/body has put lives in danger of those who were present at the March.

Even Bakhtawar B-Zardari tweeted on the matter. She said it was done to incite hatred and endanger the lives of women.

There are some problematic ideas that we see on placards each year on Aurat march which also leads to a lot of women not wanting to be associated with the movement. However, this was deliberately done without being thought about as this could have resulted in some serious repercussions.

Aurat March 2021 Highlighted their Demands for Women on International Women’s Day

Aurat March 2021 took place in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad today and man we are living for the slogans! Each year, not just women but also men come up with creative slogans that go viral on social media. Reportedly, this year, the attendance of the participants was relatively low as compared to previous years due to the pandemic at hand. However, the organizers urged people to post their placards online if they can’t make up it to the march.

There were many groups of women present in Karachi’s Frere Hall of which we spoke to the Fisherfolk community and found out what their issues at hand were:

Even front line workers and doctors faced a great deal of difficulty as a result of the pandemic. In many cases, women were the first ones to lose their jobs expressed the women at the march

What were the demands of women this year?

Women in each major city of Pakistan are going through different sets of issues. The organizeers summed up the most prevelants ones and put it up on social media so masses are informed as to why they march, what’s their purpose, and what are the probelms.

Lahore

On twitter, Aurat march Lahore announced many demands which includs better healthcare budget, drug addiction a public health issue, consent based mandatory admission in school, safe abortion facilities, right to healthcare for transgender community, community and envoirnmental health, forced gender-reassignment medical procedures, equitable Covid-19 Vaccine rollout, acknowledge unpaid labour, end privatizing healthcare, rehabilitative programs for women, and access to contraceptives. 

Karachi

15 point agenda was set for Karachi by Aurat March for this year! It is a condensed version of a complete charter of demands & focuses broadly on the theme of gender-based violence inflicted upon women, transgender & non-binary persons.

Mahira Khan Reveals Why She Attends the Aurat March Every Year

Pakistan’s heartthrob, Mahira Khan, appeared in Mira Sethi’s talkshow and revealed exciting details about her childhood, values taught in her by her parents, and how she is expected to behave. The star also revealed why she attends Aurat March every year.

Khan said she makes it a point to attend Aurat March every year because she believes her fame has given her voice some weight, which means if she is at a place, all eyes will turn, and people will be ready to hear what she has to say. The presence of famous A-listers like her highlights the significance of March.

“It’s important for me to march every year because my voice has weight. When I go to the Aurat March, I make it a point to tell everyone that this is what I believe in. It does not benefit me but it is important for the women here, so I will represent them. Nobody will go and ask them to explain their slogans and chants, but the media comes to me. So I want to utilise my two minutes to explain and educate on behalf of those women.”

Mera Jism Meri Marzi: I am a human, and this is my body, so it is up to me whether I allow you to stare at it or touch it or not.

Mahira explains what Mera Jism Meri Marzi means, a popular slogan that has become part of a great controversy after it went viral on social media. Many assumed it meant wearing short clothes or stripping clothes off. Khan cleared it out and said,

“When I say Mera Jism Meri Marzi, I don’t mean I want to strip my clothes off and run around naked!” asserted the celebrity. “I mean to say that I am a human and this is my body, so it is up to me whether I allow you to stare at it or touch it, or not. It means that I can report to you if you don’t comply. It means that I can take an action against you if you harass me because you have no right over MY body.”

Mahira also spoke about her childhood; she said she lived in a small house and has had enough freedom a child should, which didn’t mean any curfews or boundaries.

“We lived in a small house, just the four of us, and there was this freedom. We were like roommates. My parents had me after eight years of their marriage. They were doing their own thing and enter these two children. So they gave us that freedom, which by the way, wasn’t about having no boundaries and curfews. It was the freedom to choose. My father especially would ask us, ‘Who do you want to be, what do you want to eat?’ They would never tell us they want us to be this or that. They just let us take our own decisions,” said Khan.
