Amna Baig Becomes First Pakistani Woman to Join Koenigsegg Automotive as Manufacturing Engineer

Amna Mustabeen Baig has become the first Pakistani woman to join Koenigsegg Automotives as a Manufacturing Engineer. Previously, Farukh Kamran, a graduate from UET became a part of the Swedish hypercar brand.

Women like Amna who achieve such success are always good news for the people of the country. Pakistan is being represented internationally and our citizens are considered for bog roles.

The automotive industry is one of the biggest ones. Having Pakistani talent join a huge name like Koeenigsigg is great news, especially when a female has joined the male-dominated sector that too as an engineer.

With more than three years of experience working as an automotive engineer, Amna has also worked for other well-known Swedish automotive companies such as Volvo Trucks and Scania.

She took the challenge to prove herself as a woman and got her Master’s degree from the UK in Business Management and another master’s in Supply Chain Management from Sweden.

She is also known to act as a mentor to young girls to empower them by choosing this unique field and by breaking stereotypes that are associated with it.

Koenigsegg Automotive AB is a Swedish manufacturer of high-performance sports cars based in Sweden and is famous for manufacturing the world’s fastest car priced at around $3 million.

This is How ASP Amna Baig’s Gender Protection Unit is Keeping Women Safe

SDPO Amna Baig is no stranger – she is a well-celebrated name in Islamabad and in Pakistan. Amna Baig is helping keep women of the capital city safe through the Gender Protection Unit.

The Gender Protection Unit is a dedicated division of the Islamabad Captial Territory Police that exclusively handles cases related to gender violence, domestic and child abuse, and harassment.

The unit and its associated helpline are managed by female police officers. Ladies and children who need help anytime and anywhere in the capital city can contact the facilitation centre.

The application will then be worked upon and if needed an FIR will be lodged and an investigation will also be carried out by the officers. The field team is comprised of 3 members, a female, a male and a Duty officer. The team takes fast action and arrives at the location in 5 minutes.

If the complainant is found in a serious condition and needs medical assistance, they are transported to the nearest hospital. If the Duty Officer is on site and there is no other officer available, (of ASI-ranked) a Sub-Inspector ranked individual will accompany the team.

SDPO Amna Baig shared that the unit had been noticing for some time now that women were unable to report cases of harassment and/or domestic violence, and they were getting to know about these cases through social media, or neighbours.

There have been times when women want to report the incident but are reluctant and when the police arrive at their homes, they are scared of what people may think or what may happen next. As a result, they refuse to lodge the complaint.

Hence, it was important to launch a unit that was dedicated to helping women by giving them easy access around-the-clock. The officers in the Gender Protection Unit have been given proper training and still go through different sessions almost on a weekly basis.

Moreover, the unit has strong sources, women and children who are homeless and are seeking shelter can approach the officers and receive help, and even legal aid. According to the unit, the most complaints received is for harassment, which is complicated to trace and requires a lot of time and resources.

SHO Misbah shared a harassment case in which the person was visually impaired and was not able to trace the whereabouts or identity of the harasser. She personally led that came despite the complications, and with the help of CCTV footage, they were able to track the culprit.

Islamabad Police’s Amna Baig Gets Nominated by the US Embassy for ‘International Women of Courage’ Award

Amna Baig, a female officer of Islamabad police, has been nominated by the United States (US) Embassy for the ‘International Women of Courage’ Award.

The award for which Baig is nominated recognises women globally for exhibiting outstanding courage and leadership in championing peace, justice, human rights, gender equality, and women empowerment.

The announcement of the nomination of the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Amna Baig was made on Thursday at an event marking the 30th anniversary of the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign. The event was hosted by US Embassy Charge d’affaires Angela P Aggeler. As per a press release, the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign began in 1991. It says that over 6,000 organizations in 187 countries have participated in the campaign.

“Even though gender-based violence is pervasive, it is not inevitable. It can and must be prevented. This is why we take this time each year to reinvigorate our efforts against gender-based violence and to call for greater collective and individual action to prevent and respond to all forms of violence against women,” said d’affaires Aggeler at the event.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Amna Baig is currently in charge of the law enforcement’s Gender Protection Unit, a government initiative to facilitate women and transgender people in their fight against discrimination and injustice.

Amna graduated from NUST business school back in 2013. She studied economics as her major. Many might differ, but Amna believes that PSP is a great career for women as it empowers them. In fact, it is the most empowering career for a woman in Pakistan.

Amna announced the news on the micro-blogging site where she is most active. She said, “Took charge as Sub Divisional Police Officer Kohsar, hoping to serve and protect Islamabad with @ICT_Police”.

Amna wrote a farewell message before leaving Punjab in a series of tweets.

“As I say goodbye to Punjab, I feel it’s important to acknowledge those who left a mark. My CPO is the most brilliant police officer I have come across, and it was an absolute pleasure to work under the command of DIG Ahsan Younus”, she wrote.

The condition of the mess has greatly improved

She concluded, “Not a single day, I felt that I was treated differently because I was a female officer. Not a single day that I didn’t learn anything new from him. I could write a whole bunch of tweets on how much sir has done in a year for @RwpPolice but for now hoping to work with Sir again”.

Who Became Amna’s Inspiration?

Her inspiration to work in the field came from her father, who was a retired civil servant. His work record was a lesson on how a bureaucrat’s work can improve an ordinary man’s life. He was in District Management Group while Amna opted for Police Service of Pakistan.
