The story of 8-year-old Naghma was tugged at the heartstrings of all social media users who have come across it. The story was first shared on Ayesha Chundrigar Foundation’s (ACF) social media account.
At such a tender age when kids of her age are attending school and playing in the local parks, Naghma collects and transport wood from one side of Karachi to the other on her donkey cart with her younger brother.
Her father walked out on the family 2 years ago, saying that he is going to buy a pack of cigarettes and never came back home. Her mother does not work because she recently gave birth and has to be at home for the newborn.
To help her and her family, ACF gave them a cart and harness of top-quality, not only does this solve Naghma and her family’s problem of livelihood but also gives a caring and loving home to the animal as well.
Moreover, when the foundation offered to send her and her brother to school as well as help them with food, instead of being happy, the first sentence out of her mouth was ‘koi madad nahin karta hai’. This shows the extent of problems the little girl has been facing at a tender age.

Naghma earns Rs. 300 a day from which she spends Rs. 150 on her donkey, and the remaining amount is kept for the family. Her family lives in a combined house with 25 people in total. When the ACF team made a visit to her residence to check up on the family, they saw that she had kept the donkey and cart in excellent condition and properly had a tarp on it to protect it from the rain.
We salute young Naghma and her family for their bravery and for their resilience for not giving up no matter how tough the situation got for them.
