The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has taken significant steps to empower Pakistani women in recent years. However, getting a new ID made and renewing a previous one is still a pretty chaotic process.
In this article, we have listed down below a few pointers that might as well help you if you are trying to get your previous ID’s renewed:
1 – Women Who Do Not Know About the Whereabouts of their Father are no longer Required to Provide their Information
In recent developments, SHC has permitted NADRA to accommodate women who have no idea of their father’s whereabouts. A new CNIC or renewal of the old one can be issued without the father’s information.
2 – Take a Sibling, Husband, or Parent along for Verification
NADRA requires you to bring someone to verify your identity. So while you’re planning to get your CNIC renewed, make sure you’re also asking someone to come along with you, or else you will have to go back and forth, and it will waste your time. Make sure whoever is tagging along brings their ID card too.
3 – You Can Keep Father’s Name as Your Surname or Change it to Husband’s Name
While you’re getting your ID’s renewed, you can get your surname changed to your father’s or your husband’s regardless of your marital status. However, we strongly recommend speaking to an expert about how this may affect your ownership of assets, properties, bank accounts, and businesses if any.
4 – You Can Still Get Your ID Card Made If You Are an Orphan
Orphans in Pakistan have been facing severe problems over the years. Since NADRA requires you to have your family information, this was quite a task for people without families. Most would get their IDs made with the wrong means. However, now, they can get them made or renewed through proper channels.
5 – Documents to Take With You
Bring these documents: Original Pakistani Passport or Old ID Card or Domicile Certificate or Matriculation Certificate issued from Pakistan and Copies of Parent’s ID card.
6 – Photo and Biometric
Personal appearance of the applicant for photo and biometric is essential. So you must look presentable when going to renew the ID card.
7 – You May Need to go Several Times
Even though the purpose of this listicle is to help women with a smooth renewal process, you will likely have to go several times. This could be because of many reasons, including the requirement of additional documents, in your case.
8 – Long Lines
Even though your purpose of going to NADRA is to renew your ID, it may take some time even though the authority already has all your information.
9 – Biometric Verification Online
You can also renew your ID online. However, you will need to provide basic documents, biometric verification, and a recent photo. You will only be able to verify fingerprints with the help of a phone that has a fingerprint sensor.
10 – Take Photo Online
NADRA database requires you to upload a passport size picture. This can’t be taken from your camera application on your phone. You have to download a special application to click passport size pictures.
