Plastic waste has increased across the world in the past decade. Cheap, flexible, and multipurpose plastic has become the universal element of today’s fast-moving economy with all fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG). This means that modern society would not survive if we remove it.
According to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, around 95% of the value of plastic packaging is lost to the economy after one short use.
While we are considering using less plastic, we must also give a thought to process our waste, or better off, eliminate it. For example, in Pakistan, sanitizers are available at supermarkets in biodegradable packaging, which of course, can be decomposed. However, brands can eliminate the packaging by-product refill stations.
Unilever Pakistan
Unilever Pakistan has initiated the cause to move towards sustainable packaging, which means you will be seeing product refill stations at your local stores in some time. The concept was picked up by Unilever Mexico first and will now be implemented here.
Across the world, people have started taking the initiative to be mindful of the products they use, meaning they prefer buying environmentally friendly products. Hence, their personal waste is as limited as possible. Reducing the use of plastic will clearly prove to be great for the environment. Large organizations such as Unilever Pakistan realize the necessity to take action on plastic pollution and build a circular economy for plastic.
Conatural
Davaam life, an environmental organization, has partnered with local beauty brand conatural to launch Pakistan’s first automated refill station. The company believes that it will take time for consumers, retailers, and suppliers’ behaviors to alter, but it is not impossible. They are pushing other FMCGs to begin this journey towards a better environment, and they are here to assist others in their journey if required.
Conatural is a beauty brand founded by Myra Qureshi and Rema Taseer in 2014. The brand develops, manufactures, and sells natural and organic skin and hair care products through different channels, including its own website and offline stores.
