The service, which was initially introduced in Punjab, has now been extended to Sindh, with Karachi being the first city to benefit. The initiative aims to eliminate the hassle of long queues and streamline the renewal process by sending NADRA representatives directly to citizens’ homes on motorcycles equipped with the necessary technology.

How the NADRA Biker Service Works

This service is designed to provide maximum convenience for residents who need to update their NADRA documents. Here’s how it works:

  • Citizens can call the NADRA helpline to request the service.
  • A NADRA biker equipped with the required tools will visit the applicant’s home at a scheduled time.
  • The biker will assist in the renewal of CNICs and other related documentation. However, new CNIC applications will still require visiting a NADRA office.
  • Once the renewal process is complete, the documents will be delivered to the applicant’s residence, removing the need for an additional trip.

The service operates from 8 AM to 5 PM Monday to Friday, ensuring accessibility for most working individuals.

Service Fees and Expansion Plans

To use the NADRA Biker Service, citizens must pay an additional fee of Rs 1,000 on top of the standard renewal charges. This added cost covers the convenience of home service and document delivery.

The initiative was officially launched in Karachi by NADRA Karachi Region Director General Ehtasham Shahid, who personally handed over bikes equipped with digital tools to the assigned service personnel.

Currently, three motorcycles have been allocated for Karachi to manage service requests efficiently. However, plans are already in place to expand the service to Hyderabad and Mirpur Khas, making the initiative more accessible to other regions in Sindh.

During a consultative meeting at Health Services Academy in Islamabad, Chairman NADRA Tariq Malik highlighted the dire need to spread awareness for couples seeking to get married about maternal health and family planning.

Moreover, the chairman expressed willingness to make an online course for spreading awareness about planning a family mandatory for marriage registration.

On the other hand, Goodwill ambassador of Population and Family Planning Shehzad Roy also pushed for the initiative during the event. “18,984 children were born in Pakistan every day”, said Roy, stressing this be made a national awareness campaign.

“If couples would complete the reproductive health course, they will learn about maternal health, spacing between children and contraceptives, because there is a large percentage of couples getting married that wish to engage in planning but they are unaware [about how to go about it]”, said Roy.

“I think if we could find a way to make this course compulsory, […] it could create a large impact for Pakistan in terms of population management”.

Upon this, the Nadra Chairman said that two significant proposals had emerged during the consultative session for which policymaking would now follow.

“One is that alongside identification, age verification will also be carried out during marriage registration” to identify whether the individuals getting married are underage.

“The other thing that has been suggested is pre-requisite courses for family planning […] so if we ensure these two steps, we could control underage marriages all the while providing education”.

What are Digital Wallets?

A digital wallet or E-wallet is an electronic card which can be accessed on your smartphone and is used for transaction or identification purposes. Globally, digital wallets are being used for quite some time now.

NADRA Launches Registration Campaign for Transgender Persons Across the Country

National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a drive for transgender persons.

Special measures were taken to reach out to the marginalised segment of society, transgender communities, and persons on International Human Rights Day.

The campaign called “Trans-Rights are Human Rights” aims to increase the registration of transgender persons from the marginalised community and create awareness across the country. Authorities are making conscious efforts to reach their goal. One is that corrective training will be conducted on personals on the 13th of December. This will help authorities identify and diminish hurdles encountered during registration.

Up to date, the National Database & Registration Authority has registered 5,626 transgender persons. These individuals have opted for a gender that is neither male nor female. To empower this marginalised community, the authority aims to inform the group of the significance of legal identity, which can further empower them in the community.

National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) has further engaged the Ministry of Human Rights, Provincial/District Social Welfare Departments to mobilise trans persons for the Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC ) registration. This, in turn, will assist the community in diminishing and eliminating long-standing discrimination, exclusion, and sporadic violence.

Moreover, it is the only organisation at the moment which has provided the trans community with equal opportunities for transgender persons to get jobs and be a part of the organization. It already has trans employees given jobs as per their qualification and experience.

NADRA Empowers Women in Pakistan by Letting Them Choose to Keep Their Father’s Name or Change to Husband’s Name on CNIC

National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has taken a significant step to empower Pakistani women. The forum has permitted married women to choose either their father’s name or their husband’s name on their computerised national identity cards (CNIC).

The news was announced by Nadra’s official Twitter account. The tweet said, “In a major step taken by Chairman Nadra @ReplyTariq for women’s empowerment in the country,(married) females can now choose to mention the name of their husbands in their ComputerisedNational Identity Cards (CNIC) or may continue with their father’s name.”

Some people on social media have confused this with the woman’s surname present on the ID card. To clarify, women were always allowed to change their surname to their husband’s or continue with their father’s.

On public forums, men and women are engaged in conversation based on what the pros and cons may be of continuing with the father’s name on the ID card or change to husband’s, as the decision may restrict you, particularly, while creating legal documents or setting up your finances. It is recommended to speak to an expert.

Addressing the 14th Annual Rural Women Conference, which 500 women from 109 districts attended, Chairman of Nadra, Tariq Malik, said that the forum has successfully reduced the exiting registration gap between women and men from 14% to 10% in almost four months. To increase the registration of women, it has also set up an inclusive registration unit.

“The unit is reviewing all policies to enhance women registration, whether it is linked with awareness or outreach. Within few months, approximately 40 million households have validated their family members through dedicated service 8009,” he said.

He added that “The CNIC is just not a plastic card. It not only protects the rights of women but also empowers them to benefit from the government policies and steps.”

PAK-ID Mobile App by NADRA for Biometric Verification Offers Great Convenience to Overseas Pakistanis

On Tuesday, the National Dat­abase and Registration Auth­ority (NADRA) introduced an application that will enable Pakistanis to use their smartphones for biometric verification. The development has come forward after the government’s continuous efforts to advance its systems with the help of technology.

This project, indeed, falls under the Prime Ministers’ vision of digital Pakistan.

Tariq Malik, the chairman of the National Dat­abase and Registration Auth­ority (NADRA), said that the country is moving towards digital identity lifecycle by introducing the app. “It is a game-changer as it helps create trust in a variety of transactions between people, ide­n­tity providers, and public and private sector,” he said.

The Pak-ID mobile application was launched by the premier himself to facilitate applicants of National ID cards using the Pak-ID portal, a great convenience to Overseas Pakistanis.

In a tweet, Imran Khan’s official Twitter account said: “Inaugurated PAK-ID Mobile App by #NADRA. A revolutionary step in providing convenience, especially to Overseas Pakistanis. Applicants of http://id.nadra.gov.pk can now capture fingerprints, photographs, and documents using mobile phones. Great initiative by Tariq Malik & NADRA team.”

The mobile app will help Pakistanis digitally capture fingerprints from anywhere around the world and scan doc­u­ments and photographs using smartphones cameras. The Nadra chairman said, “The innovation will revolutionize the National ID Eco-System in Pakistan by providing public convenience.”

This is indeed a leap forward to putting a halt to the conservative methods of using physical paper for processing ID documents in Nadra.

In response to this message, you will receive details of your family members. If the information is correct, then reply ‘2’ to confirm it to the authority.

If you wish, you can make changes to the sent information, if incorrect. Write ‘1’ in reply to inform NADRA. Of course, to use this facility, citizens must register their mobile numbers from any NADRA centre. A representative of the NADRA will then contact you from its helpline 051-2778009.

NADRA launches Verification & Renewal of Identity Cards in a Bid to Control Illegal Issuance of CNIC

National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has recently launched a new system that will allow the authorities to verify and renew identity cards efficiently. The step is taken to control the unauthorized issuance of Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs).

According to an official of NADRA, this new system can verify/identify the issuance of the foreign person in the family tree system. This development has come weeks after Senate and National Assembly raised four million ‘fake CNICs’ being circulated in the system.

NADRA Employees Helping Foreigners and Militants

In a press conference earlier this month in Karachi,  FIA Sindh Director Amir Farooqi revealed that in exchange for monetary gains, NADRA employees are actively helping Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), militants linked with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and Baloch sub-nationalist groups to get CNICs.

Amir Farooqi also highlighted that the operation would also help catch foreigners living in Pakistan illegally. According to him, the new tech is used to reach a fake identity card through artificial intelligence.

The system will automatically send details of the family tree, and if you wish, you can make changes if incorrect.
