1. Benazir Bhutto

The daughter of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto became the first woman Prime Minister of Pakistan (and the Muslim world) in 1988. She served two non-consecutive terms, facing numerous challenges and setbacks throughout her career. Bhutto’s assassination in 2007 was a major loss for Pakistan and the world.

2. Begum Ra’ana Liaquat Ali Khan

Begum Ra’ana Liaquat Ali Khan, more than just a former First Lady, carved her path in Pakistani politics, shattering glass ceilings along the way. Here are some key highlights of her remarkable achievements:

  • First woman governor of any province in Pakistan: She wasn’t just the First Lady (wife of the first Prime Minister, Liaquat Ali Khan), but also the first woman to hold governorship of any province, leading Sindh with distinction.

3. Fehmida Mirza

Fahmida Mirza is a Pakistani politician who was the Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination, in office from 20 August 2018 until 10 April 2022. She served as the 18th and only woman Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan from March 2008 to June 2013. She was elected as the first female Speaker of a Lower House of Parliament in South Asia. She received 249 votes and defeated her opponent Muhammad Israr Tareen who could secure 70 votes only.

4. Hina Rabbani Khair

In July 2011, history was made in Pakistan when Hina Rabbani Khar, at the young age of 33, became the nation’s first female Foreign Minister. This groundbreaking appointment not only marked a significant step forward for gender equality in Pakistani politics but also brought a fresh perspective and youthful energy to the country’s diplomatic landscape.

5. Maleeha Lodhi

Maleeha Lodhi is a Pakistani diplomat, political scientist, and former Pakistan’s Representative to the United Nations. She was the first woman to hold the position. Previously, she served as Pakistan’s envoy to the Court of St James’ and twice as its ambassador to the United States

6. Maryam Nawaz

Nawaz is ready to create history by becoming the first female CM of Punjab and create a legacy of her own following her father’s and uncle’s. Maryam Nawaz was selected as PML-N’s nominee for Punjab Chief Minister after the official announcement by Shehbaz Sharif.

Maryam Nawaz May Become Pakistan’s First Female CM Punjab

In a recent development, Maryam Nawaz, who is the political successor of Nawaz Sharif, emerged as the party’s choice for the position of chief minister of Punjab.

Following a gathering at the residence of PML-Q Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif officially declared Maryam’s selection as the Punjab CM nominee during a press briefing.

Shehbaz stated, “The decision to nominate Maryam for this role has been endorsed by the party leadership and our founder, Quaid Nawaz Sharif.”

With the PML-N securing 131 seats in the Punjab assembly, alongside its coalition allies, preparations are underway to establish governance in the province.

Additionally, the PML-N leadership has designated Shehbaz Sharif as their nominee for the Prime Ministerial position. Both the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Muttahida Quami Movement have pledged their support for Shehbaz.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is gearing up to lead the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the third consecutive term.

During an informal interaction with the media within Adiala Jail, where he is detained, PTI’s incarcerated founder, Imran Khan, nominated Ali Amin Gandapur as their candidate for the CM KP seat.

Veteran Pakistani actress Hina Khawaja Bayat has used harsh words addressing PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz in a clip that has now gone viral.

Amid the political activities in the country, politicians and their speeches are being carefully heard ahead of the no-confidence vote in the parliament. After all, it determines the country’s fate and whether Imran Khan will resign or not.

In the clip published on Twitter, Hina addresses PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz in a heated statement. She says that she usually does not use harsh words to address anyone, but Maryam Nawaz has forced her to do so with her account, “Apkay moun mein khaak”.

She says that God forbid Maryam’s wish of ‘Naya Pakistan’ landing in ‘Purana Pakistan’ ever comes true. She wishes God that Pakistan may never revert to the old Pakistan that Maryam’s party and her allies had created. May Allah protects our country from its inbound and external enemies,” she said.

She wishes well to all those who have served the country and have greater intentions for the country. The tweet has received massive engagement on Twitter, with supporters of Imran Khan and PTI appreciating the actress.

Many Pakistani celebrities from the entertainment industry openly supported Imran Khan. These included Shaan Shahid, Humayun Saeed, Imran Abbas, Haroon Shahid, Faysal Qureshi, Ahmed Ali Butt, Rohail Hyatt, Samina Peerzada, Hina Bayat, Attaullah Essa Khelvi and Salman Ahmed. These celebrities also attended the Islamabad gathering and lent their support to Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Video Clip of Politician Miftah Ismail Wiping his Face Using Female Party Leader’s Dupatta Goes Viral

A clip of Pakistani politician Miftah Ismail has been making rounds on social media. In the clip, the politician can be seen standing behind Sania Ashiq, another politician, while PML-N’s Maryam Nawaz addresses the media during a press conference.

At one point, the politician is seen wiping his face and nose with what internet users claim is Ashiq’s dupatta. The clip making rounds on social media doesn’t clearly show whether it was Ashiq’s dupatta or not; regardless, Miftah Ismail is receiving criticism online for it.

A user wrote, “I see a lot of people are taking this as a joke, but this is totally unacceptable, irrespective of party affiliation. No man has the right to touch a woman’s clothing.”

To clear the air, the politician tweeted saying, “A video shows me wiping my face with my sister @SaniaaAshiq ’s dupatta.” He explained that he thought he had reached in his pocket for a tissue but unknowingly picked up her dupatta, “As seen, I reached in my pocket, got a tissue & wiped my face. 2nd time I unknowingly picked up her dupatta on the tissue to wipe my face.” 

He then concluded his tweet by saying that he apologized to politician Sania Ashiq, “Of course, I apologised to her when I saw it.”

Clearly, the internet is not buying Miftah Ismail’s side of the story.

The previous chief of the tribe and Heer’s father, Muhammad Ismail Soho, passed away in February due to coronavirus.

Twitter Has Mixed Reviews Over Maryam Nawaz’s Outfit for Her Son Junaid Safdar’s Mehndi

Pakistani politician Maryam Nawaz has come under great scrutiny for the outfit she wore last night for her son, Junaid Safdar’s mehndi.

Maryam wore a beautiful lehenga choli by Indian designer Abhinav Mishra. There’s no doubt that the politician looks young for her age, and in that outfit, she may even fool some people that she may be the bride at the event.

The politician seems to have a knack for fashion and only picks flattering outfits for herself, whether it is for her son’s wedding events or on a daily basis.

While some on the internet truly admired the efforts that made her look so young and beautiful, others complained about why she stole the bride’s thunder at her wedding.

A Twitter user commented, “I never comment on anyone’s dressing, especially females..” He added, “There’s a thing all over the world that you do not steal the bride’s thunder”.

Someone commented, “She is an embarrassment even to herself”.

Some think it was an attempt to fit in a younger crowd. “She looks nice and out of place at the same time”.

Some also said that this is straight-up narcissistic behaviour. ” This spotlight should not waver from me even on my son’s wedding”.

While the pictures of Maryam Nawaz are circulating on social media, people are also wondering what the actual bride looked like.

Some advocated for her. She commented that she should enjoy herself and wear whatever she likes at her son’s wedding events.

In August, Pakistan’s ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s grandson, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, and Captain Muhammad Safdar Awan’s son Junaid Safdar tied the knot with the head now-defunct Ehtesaab Bureau, Saif-ur-Rehman’s daughter Ayesha Saif Khan in London.

Only the Nikkah ceremony took place in London, which sadly, Maryam Nawaz and her husband weren’t able to attend. However, the rest of the events will take place in Pakistan.

Junaid Safdar’s Voice Wins Many Hearts After Clip of Him Singing on His Wedding Day Goes Viral!

Pakistan’s ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s grandson, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, and Captain Muhammad Safdar Awan’s son Junaid Safdar tied the knot with the head now-defunct Ehtesaab Bureau, Saif-ur-Rehman’s daughter Ayesha Saif Khan in London. The nikah ceremony took place at The Lanesborough in an expensive 5-star hotel on the Hyde Park Corner in Knightsbridge.

The pictures from the event were circulating on social media since Monday. There was ample gossip about Junaid’s good looks and, of course, the bride who chose to wear an Indian designer, Sabyasachi’s bridal lehenga. Many also turned wedding pictures into memes which also included Nawaz Sharif.  All in all, people were sympathetic with Maryam Nawaz and her husband as they weren’t allowed to leave the country and so attended the wedding on a video call.

A clip of Junaid singing at his nikkah event followed by many pictures went viral very quickly because of Junaid’s soulful voice. When the performer gave the mic to Junaid, we weren’t expecting him to be phenomenal. However, we were surprised by his hidden talent.

Junaid sang ‘Kia Hua Tera Wada’ by the late Mohammad Rafi to his friends and family. His vocals earned the praise of many Pakistani celebrities and also internet users.

Twitter Reacts to Fawad Chaudhry’s Sexist Remarks Towards Maryam Nawaz

In a press conference, Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry spoke about the PDM’s stance at length. However, something that ticked off quite many people was his remarks towards Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Fawad starts off by talking about how he feels as if Bilawal and Maryam have taken up positions in their parents’ respective political party’s and are signing up to become potential candidates for the Prime Minister’s seat as if this is some kind of internship, and that they can follow their parents’ footsteps steadily.

He then said Maryam Nawaz or Bilawal Bhutto had not worked a single day in their lives. They are not fit for the premier’s seat. He then started throwing sexist remarks at Maryam Nawaz, pointing out that she must go and get a manager’s position in one of her uncle’s factories. She, who has lived under her father’s roof and had servants and luxurious available at her disposal by looting the country’s money, has never even run her kitchen, which makes her unfit to run Pakistan, a nuclear state.

While we partly agree with Fawad Chaudhry’s statement, we discourage throwing sexist remarks at women. Why is it that women fighting for power in any prospect are reminded that their place is in the kitchen? Are all Pakistani men in politics run the kitchen before they run the state collectively? Is that a criterion? Chaudhry passing such a remark on national TV shows the world that even though it’s 2020, we are quite behind in our time.
