Dua Zehra: SHC Hands Over Custody of Minor to Parents

Dua Zehra’s case had spread like wildfire in Pakistan. Social media wanted answers as to how a girl ended up from Karachi to Lahore, got married, and why she had refused to return home to her parents.

A petition regarding the alleged abduction of the teen was heard today by a bench headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro.  The Sindh High Court temporarily handed over Dua Zahra to her parents in an alleged abduction case on Friday (6th January 2023).

During today’s proceedings, the teenage expressed her wish to go with her parents before the court. To this, Zaheer’s lawyer urged the court to stop the Karachi girl from going abroad.

Zaheer Ahmad’s lawyer further said the petitioner should approach the trial court as the girl was sent to a shelter home on court orders and was not kept in the custody.

She was the main witness in the case, he added. He said the parents had held five meetings with the girl and they asked her whether she wanted to go home or not. In this case, Zaheer should also be allowed to meet the girl, he argued.

Zaheer’s lawyer appealed that the girl should be stopped from being taken out and the judge replied everyone wanted to go to their parents’ house. “No one wants to leave their parents’ house and our court is open to all. The girl is young and she does not want to go to a shelter home,” the judge said.

The court asked the girl’s father Mehdi Kazmi what guarantee he would give to the court. The court, while addressing the girl’s mother, said: “We are handing over the girl to you and now you have a huge responsibility on your shoulders.”

The SHC handed over the temporary custody of the girl to her parents against surety bonds worth Rs. 1 million. The court disposed of the petition and handed over the case to the trial court to decide on permanent custody of the Karachi girl.

Backstory

Dua Zehra disappeared from Karachi, leaving her parents to wonder whether if their beloved daughter was kidnapped, or worse. Turns out, Zehra was in Lahore. Not just that, she had married a boy named Zaheer.

Her father, Syed Mehdi Kazmi, challenged the nuptials under the Child Marriage Act. He called out Zaheer and alleged that this is not possible and surely this was a trap set by Zaheer and some other men involved in this disgusting honey trap set.

After several weeks,  Zaheer Ahmed admitted that the marriage was a trap and that he was involved along with others in trapping Dua Zehra, calling her from Karachi to Lahore.

Ahmed and others were booked by the police for kidnapping an underage girl from Karachi. According to the police, Ahmed kidnapped the underage girl in the Al-Falah Colony area with the abetment of other co-accused and married her in Lahore.

In July, the Lahore court allowed Dua to live with her husband. The Model Town court, while issuing a verdict on the police’s plea to send the girl (14 years old according to her father’s claim and 18-year-old as per her own) to Dar-ul-Aman, rejected the police request and allowed Dua Zehra to live with her husband Zaheer Ahmed.

She was then produced before SHC where the court ordered a medical examination of the girl. The medical examiner stated that she is aged between 16 and to 17-year-old.

She was then shifted to a shelter home on SHC orders.

“Zaheer Ahmed has Confessed to Crimes in Dua Zehra Case” Claims Iqrar-ul-Hassan

Popular television host Iqrar ul Hassan has shared a video statement, in which he claims that Zaheer Ahmed, the husband of Dua Zehra has confessed to his crimes.

Before we move ahead let’s rewind. Dua Zehra is a young girl (15 years) who was taken from her home in Karachi. After her parents filed a missing complaint, it was found that she had married a boy named Zaheer Ahmed (21 years). However, she had been claiming at the time that she is of legal age, and has married him per her will.

This one-of-a-kind case had divided social media, while half of the sides were with the parents on bringing their daughter back home, convinced that the minor was being blackmailed or brainwashed, the other half blamed everything on the parents claiming it was their neglect that led to this day.

Fast-forwarding to the present, after a medical test was conducted, it was found that Dua is indeed under the age of 18, hence, her marriage is illegal and invalid. Soon after this news came to light, an arrest warrant was issued for the men behind her alleged kidnapping and marriage, including Zaheer Ahmed.

For some time now, Zaheer had been insistent that he has no ties with any gans, and that he and Dua, who met over social media were actually in love and were happy. However, according to the investigative journalist, Syed Iqrar-ul-Hassan, Zaheer Ahmed has recorded a video confession in which he admitted to being involved in the crimes made against the girl.

Well, congratulations as the biggest news is here about Zaheer Ahmed. He has finally confessed about Dua Zehra case in the court, today. Zaheer has said that he was not alone involved in Dua Zehra case but there was a whole gang behind it. This confession proves our claims about Zaheer Ahmed to be true that he was being used by a gang to trap Dua Zehra to be taken to any suspicious place, later on. Zaheer Ahmed reported in court that he was not alone. – Iqrar-ul-Hassan

He added:

Today, Zaheer Ahmed had accepted and confessed in court that Dua Zehra didn’t come herself and his current confession refuted his own previous false claims about Dua. Zaheer said that Dua came to Lahore independently but now the drama has been exposed. Zaheer, the YouTubers, the lawyers, and Zaheer’s mother made false claims about Dua Zehra. They all are part of this gang. We don’t want to show videos and proof as the whole nation knows that Zaheer was wrong. No one was buying Dua’s story. People with logic didn’t buy it. Zaheer’s phone location showed that he was in Karachi. After all proofs, Zaheer had to confess his crime Now, Dua Zehra is in safe hands, she has been shifted into Karachi’s shelter home from Lahore.

As per Syed Iqrar Ul Hassan, Dua Zehra is now safe and sound and back in Karachi.

On the other hand, a districts and sessions court on Tuesday extended the interim bail of Zaheer Ahmed and his brother, Shabbir, in a case pertaining to the kidnapping of Dua Zehra. Interim pre-arrest bail was granted to Zaheer and his brother on July 21, subject to furnishing a surety of Rs100,000 each.

We can only pray that the young lady can move past her hardships and look forward to a peaceful life with her family.

Pakistani Activist Jibran Nasir Slams Authorities for Taking the Word of Dua Zehra Over Her Parents & Facts

Civil rights lawyer and activist Jibran Nasir took it to his official social media account to share his two cents on the results of Dua Zehra’s medical report.

The reports clearly state that Dua Zehra is not more than 15 years old as her parents have been claiming for the past 2 and a half months.

He penned: ‘The Medical Board has verified the truth which parents have been telling for 2.5 months. As per the board, Dua Zehra is nearest to 15 years of age negating the previous medical report which placed Dua at 17. This proves that NADRA documents are accurate and Dua in reality is a 14-year-old.’

‘Offences of kidnapping, child marriages and rape/sexual offences all are attracted to a case where a girl child is under 16. IGP Sindh should take immediate action to remove the current I.O. of the case who has been telling media no case of kidnapping is made and must immediately recover Dua.’

He added, ‘I.G Sindh told High Court that no case of kidnapping is made out, Police relied on the statement of girl to claim no case of kidnapping is made out, the girl repeatedly told Honorable Courts that she is 18-years of age, today it is proven that all statements were the result of inducement.’

‘We need better procedures and training in place both in Police and Judiciary to save our children. For 2.5 months parents suffered to recover their child while Dua unaware of herself was under unimaginable danger while content creators cashed in on this tragedy.’

The Dua Zehra case has become a viral sensation in the country ever since the young girl went missing. Originally it was assumed that the girl had been kidnapped, however, it was later found through footage that she sat in a vehicle without force.

Then, after dua was recovered, it was found that she had left by choice to marry the boy that she was in love with. However, despite trying to convince the media and everyone that she is above age and has married by choice, there were some loops and discrepancies in the story.

No matter how many international beverage brands hit the market and shelves, there is something special about local brands, specially Jam-e-Shirin and Rooh Afza that hold a special place in our hearts.

Recently, Dua Zehra, a girl who was reported missing earlier by her parents and was believed to be kidnapped as the father had allegedly received ransom calls. However, it was found that she had left by choice, and had married the boy of her choice, Zaheer Ahmed.

Now, there is a debate about whether Dua was manipulated or if she had made the decisions of free will. Where does Jam-e-Shirin fit into this? In a recent interview, Dua Zehra and her husband were talking to a female host, Zunaira Mahum, and in front of the table was a bottle of the brand’s famous rose syrup.

It looked as if the brand had done an ad placement which we usually see in interviews, moreover, Dua was also asked which drink is her favourite by the host, who even took the brand’s name. Dua replied, “Jam-e-Shirin”, since then the interview has become viral with many individuals trying to understand why a renowned brand would be a placement like this.

This is when Jam-e-Shirin released an official statement on their official platforms clarifying the situation. They wrote:

“Jam-e-Shirin is an internationally recognized, much-loved Pakistani brand available for over 40 years, with about 60 people out of 100 using it regularly in Pakistan. We have always conducted our media communications with dignity, upholding high moral standards. We were surprised at the prominent visibility of our brand during an interview on social media. We are investigating the issue and reassuring our loyal consumers that we have nothing to do with the interview as its producers did not take permission for displaying and mentioning our product. Appropriate action will be taken in this regard.”

While the brand has denied any and all connections with Zehra Dua, the brand has mentioned taking ‘appropriate action.’ We have yet to see how they decide to advance and pursue this issue in the near future.

Dua Zehra, Missing Teenager Girl States that She Left Karachi to Tie the Knot in Lahore

A 14-year-old teenager from Karachi, Dua Zehra, was in Lahore after missing for a week.

Geo News reported that after being recovered from Lahore, Dua gave a statement in which she revealed that she left Karachi willingly and went to Lahore. The source further reported that the Lahore police had taken her into custody.

Police have said that Dua has tied the knot with a boy based in Lahore. They have successfully obtained the marriage certificate, which respective authorities have verified.

Ten days ago, the 14-year-old stepped out of her home to dispose of garbage from the first floor to the ground floor in Karachi’s Alfalah area. Since then, no one had any clue about her whereabouts. When Dua didn’t turn up, a kidnapping case was registered on Zainab alert, and Dua’s father had also filed a police complaint against unidentified suspects.

Dua’s parents appeared on Wasim Badami’s Ramadan transmission show, Shan e Ramzan where they demanded the government finds their daughter as soon as possible.  Dua’s mother said, “I want my daughter alive. I am a mother. I will not accept her body like Zainab. I will keep the body outside Governor House if she is found dead.”

Twitter has mixed reaction’s to news of Dua being recovered in Lahore, who left willingly and now is married.

A Twitter user wrote in a tweet, “Dozens of teens across the country go down this road… there’s a severe lack of communication and mistrust between parents and children when it comes to sharing emotions and feelings for who they like and what kind of person they want to be with and more importantly who they don’t want to be with”.

A Twitter user wrote, “How convenient that any minor girl who goes missing is found nikkah-fied to a man from a totally different city she barely knows.”

“Shame on Geo News & other outlets for the sensationalism of Dua Zehra light by saying that “she married someone in Lahore”! She is 14 years old! She’s a minor! She can’t get married on consent. This false reporting is letting people assassinate her character! Thank God she is safe,” tweeted a user.

Karachi teenager Dua Zehra has been trending on Twitter since last night after her parents appeared on Wasim Badami’s Ramadan transmission show, Shan e Ramzan.

Five days ago, the 14-year-old stepped out of her home to dispose of garbage from the first floor to the ground floor in Karachi’s Alfalah area. Since then, no one has had a clue about her whereabouts. The kidnapping case has been registered on Zainab alert, and Dua’s father has also filed a police complaint against unidentified suspects.

A local news report site claims that the parents have received ransom calls, and the numbers have now been provided to the authorities.

Pakistani heartthrob actress Mahira Khan tweeted, “Praying with all my heart for Dua Zehra.. may she come home today.. Safe and sound.. Ameen. #DuaZehra”

Journalist Ihtisham Ul Haq tweeted, “#DuaZehra went missing from Karachi on 16th of April and is still not recovered. My heart aches for this little girl and her family. May Allah keep her away from any harm and all the savages. I urge authorities to protect our children and recover her as soon as possible.”

There was also quite an uproar on social media after Dua’s parents revealed on the Ramzan transmission that the masjid refused to call out for help because of their daughter’s Shia name.

Cricketer Shadab Khan urged the authorities to protect and safeguard children.

Dua’s father had mocked the current political scenario in the country, which only benefits the politicians and not the ordinary people such as him

Thousands of people have been demanding authorities on social media to recover Dua as soon as possible. We hope she returns home unharmed.
