Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) celebrated ‘Bollywood Day’ which sparked a debate on social media.

The event was intended to promote cultural exchange and understanding, but many Pakistanis saw it as a promotion of Indian culture and an insult to their own.
Social Media Reacts to LUMS’ ‘Bollywood Day’
One Twitter user wrote, “I am disappointed to see LUMS promoting Indian culture on Pakistani soil. As a Pakistani, I find this insulting and disrespectful to our nation and our culture.”
Another user tweeted, “Bollywood is not a part of our culture, and it is not acceptable for LUMS to promote it. Pakistani universities should be promoting our own culture and heritage.”

LUMS: Diveristy or Mistake?
Diversity is an essential aspect of any modern society, and it is even more critical in universities. Universities are a place where people from different backgrounds, cultures, and ethnicities come together to learn and grow. The celebration of diversity is essential in universities because it provides students with a unique learning experience and prepares them for the global workforce. In this article, we will discuss the importance of celebrating diversity in universities.
First and foremost, celebrating diversity in universities fosters a sense of community and belonging. When students from different backgrounds come together, they share their experiences, traditions, and cultures, creating a welcoming environment where everyone feels included. This sense of community is essential in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment where students can thrive.
Furthermore, celebrating diversity in universities promotes a greater understanding and respect for other cultures. When students learn about different cultures, they gain a greater appreciation for the world’s diversity, and they become more empathetic and understanding towards others. This understanding is essential in today’s global society, where people from different cultures and backgrounds work together to solve complex problems.
Moreover, celebrating diversity in universities prepares students for the global workforce. In today’s world, businesses are becoming more diverse, and companies are looking for employees who can work effectively with people from different backgrounds. By celebrating diversity in universities, students develop important skills, such as cultural awareness, communication, and problem-solving, that are critical in the workforce.
Finally, celebrating diversity in universities promotes social justice and equity. Universities have a responsibility to create a just and equitable society, and this can only be achieved by celebrating diversity and providing equal opportunities for all students. By promoting diversity, universities can help to break down barriers and promote equal access to education for all.
