Noor Mukadam Murder: Double Death Sentence for Zahir Jaffer

The Islamabad High Court has handed Noor Mukadam’s murderer Zahir Jaffer double death sentences, upholding the existing sentence awarded to him by the trial court.

This verdict was announced by a two-member divisional bench comprising Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan.

Zahir Jaffer raped, murdered, and decapitated Noor Mukadam in July 2021. He earlier received a 25-year imprisonment sentence with hard labour and a fine of Rs0.2 million after the rape was proven.

The trial court awarded a death sentence to Jaffer last February, while the two suspects Jan Muhammad and Muhammad Iftikhar — the gardener and security guard at Jaffer’s house — were awarded 10 years of imprisonment each.

Noor Mukadam was just 27 when she was mercilessly raped and murdered by Zahir Jaffer in his household. Jaffer had help from his house staff to torture and get rid of the victim.

The 27-year-old’s father is Shaukat Mukadam, a former diplomat who served Pakistan as an ambassador to South Korea and Kazakhstan. The barbaric killing of Noor had sent shockwaves throughout the nation.

Ataur Rehman, Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation), had said, “Whenever someone’s brutal murder is carried out, we shouldn’t care about the financial position of the culprit even if they are the son of a very influential father.”

Pakistani lawyer and women’s rights activist Nighat Dad told an international publication that “There are fears that the accused will get bail and leave the country,” she said.

Her friends remembered has as someone with a beautiful spirit and a clean heart. She was adored by her family and friends.

Noor Mukadam’s father had registered a complaint that when they came home they discovered their daughter was missing. They had found her cellphone number switched off and started a search for her. Sometime later, Noor called her parents to inform them that she was travelling to Lahore with some friends and would return in a day or two, according to the FIR.

At around 10 pm on July 20, the victim’s father received a call from Kohsar police station, informing him that Noor had been murdered with a sharp-edged weapon and beheaded.

Shaukat, who identified his daughter’s body, has sought the maximum punishment under the law against Zahir for allegedly murdering his daughter.

VERDICT : Zahir Jaffer Sentenced to Death by Session Court in Noor Mukadam Case

Zahir Jaffer has been sentenced to death by a session court in the Noor Mukadam murder case.

Zahir’s helpers, Iftikhar and Jameel, who are co-accused in the murder, have been sentenced to 10 years of jail time. Zahir’s parents and TherapyWorls employees were set free from the criminal charges.

On July 20th, 2021 – Noor was found murdered in Islamabad’s Sector F-7/4 at Jaffer’s residence.  FIR was registered against him, and he was arrested from the site of the murder — under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

In a clip making rounds on social media, Zahir explains what had occurred the day he was found in his house with a Noor’s beheaded and mutilated dead body. “I held her with the knife. Then, I got angry and attacked her with the knife. She was bleeding. I tried to ask for help. My father said to get rid of her dead body.”

Before the verdict was in today, Wow 360 ran polls on Twitter and Instagram. On Twitter, 80%, and on Instagram, 59% believed that Zahir Jaffer would be sentenced to death, while 20% on Twitter and 41% on Instagram thought he would not be given capital punishment.

Noor Mukadam’s father told the media outside the court that he was satisfied with the verdict. However, he would appeal to the others accused to be punished too. Mukadam said that the judgment dispelled the possibility that anyone can get away after “murdering someone’s daughter.”

The case was not just about his daughter, but it was about serving justice to all daughters of Pakistan.

On Sunday, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) prohibited all satellite TV channels from airing the CCTV footage of Noor Mukadam’s last moments after it was leaked and shown on air.  The footage now going viral on social media showed Noor’s unsuccessful attempt to escape Zahir’s home in Islamabad, where she was later murdered.

Adnan Siddiqui Lashes out at Pakistan’s Judicial System for not Punishing Zahir Jaffer in Noor Mukadam Case

Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui lashes out on the judicial system of Pakistan for not punishing Zahir Jaffer in the brutal murder case of Noor Mukadam.

It has been months since Noor Mukadam was allegedly brutally murdered in Islamabad by Zahir Jaffer. The whole nation is waiting for justice to prevail as evidence suggests who the killer is. Those responsible for the killing of Noor should be punished as soon as possible. However, no news of any such final verdict has come out as yet.  Instead, we see the case extending for no reason, headline after headline.

Many social media emphasized that the criminal Zahir Jaffer and his family are now using these tactics and power to bypass his capital punishment. Adnan Siddiqui wrote in a tweet, “Why is court dragging its feet when there’s stark evidence against that monster? Such obnoxious misuse of money, clout, and nexus to delay justice. #Noormuqadam

Other Pakistani celebrities, over time, have also raised their voices as the system fails to punish the criminals.

A week ago, singer and actor Hadiqa Kiani took it to Twitter. She wrote in a tweet, “Verdict sunao so we can know if we should take to the streets! Sick of the publicity for his charade, sick of seeing his face every day, I refuse even to say his name. Not worth it. All we want is justice for Noor. All we want is safety for our girls.”

Enough is Enough

She said in another tweet, “Another day and another obscene abuse of power, evidence, and victim-blaming. #NoorMuqaddam’s story shall not be forgotten, we demand justice, and we demand it now! Enough with the delays, the excuses, and the insanity. We demand justice for Noor. Enough is enough”

Twitter Demands Zahir Jaffer’s Punishment for Noor’s Brutal Murder, Justice Served Late is Justice Denied

On the 17th of Jan, a clip of Zahir Jaffer being carried to the court in Islamabad from Bakshi khana started making rounds on social media, which made many people on the internet furious regarding the high-profile murder case.  On the same day, Zahir’s lawyers in court claimed that his mental condition has further deteriorated.

Many highlighted that the convict Zahir Jaffer and his family are now using these tactics to bypass his capital punishment.

Following the court’s proceedings from yesterday and the viral clip of Jaffer being dragged by policemen to the court, #JusticeforNoor and #NoorMukadam started trending in Pakistan on Twitter.

The official account of Justice for Noor, run by her family, also updated people with what happened in the court yesterday.

 

Justice Served Late is Justice Denied

The whole nation is waiting for courts to punish Zahir Jaffer for the heinous crime he committed in his home in Islamabad.

Actress and host Mishi Khan also raised her voice regarding the latest clip of Zahir. She wrote in a tweet, “This guy is a creepy monster & don’t get fooled with his evil mind & games. He needs to be punished #zahirjaffer”.

A use wrote, “Why is the verdict taking so long? The longer it takes, the more loopholes his Defence lawyers will find”.

People now understand the system well. Someone wrote on Twitter, “F*** Zahir Jaffer and the entire system of protecting the heirs of rich moguls, landlords, etc.”

A user wrote, “Give him an Oscar,” for his acting skills, “and phansi,” for his heinous crimes.

People also noticed Zahir is dressed in branded attire, proving that his jail time is a joke.

A user wrote, “Where was this mental and physical debilitation when he ruthlessly slaughtered and beheaded an innocent Noor Mukaddam?”

Investigators Scrutinize Calls of Zahir Jaffer’s Mother to Security Firm Chief on the Day of Noor Mukadam’s Murder

10/8: The investigation for Noor Mukadam’s brutal murder is taking place with officials already investigating alarming findings.

As for now, calls of Zahir’s mother, Asmat Jaffer, are being looked into. According to many people accustomed to the incident and investigations,  the authorities are taking a keen interest in infrequent communications between Zahir and his mother and the head of a private Rawalpindi-based security firm on the day of the murder.

July 20: The Day of the Murder

According to sources, Asmat Jaffer had made an increasingly alarming number of calls on the day of the murder while she herself was in Karachi. Her phone records indicate she called Trillium Information Security Systems’ head, a private security firm. The same day, Zahir was also in touch with the same number.

Murder Took Place Between 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm on July 20

Many calls were also made around the time of the murder. Records say Asmat called the head of the security firm at 7:12 pm. Later, Asmat and Zahir spoke at 7:29 pm, also the last time they spoke. Police believe that he informed her about Noor’s death because the call lasted for 46 seconds.

After Zahir’s call, her mother immediately called up Trillium’s head at 7:30 pm and was on the phone for over 5 minutes. Shortly after that, she also spoke to the head of the firm thrice. The authorities are still trying to figure out the purpose of these frequent calls.

It is notable to mention that the firm deals with cyber and digital security and emergency response. 

The investigation of call records comes after the court said that they (parents) “not only abetted but also made utmost efforts to destroy the evidence.”

Trillium Information Security Systems owner told The News that “I have nothing to do with what happened [at Jaffer House]. These are absolutely false findings. Whatever the folks are saying is incorrect, as I have no connection with this [Noor Mukadam] murder.”

Many more calls were made on the same day (about 200) by Asmat Jaffer before the murder. The people she contacted include “her servant, neighbors in F-7/4, a few influential individuals, a security company, capital police, a welfare trust, four private firms, her immediate family members and periodically with her son.” Investigators believe she anticipated something bad might as well happen.

July 21: Asmat Traveled from KHI to ISL

At 6:30 am, Asmat arrived at Quaid-e-Azam International Airport, Karachi, and continued to speak to a dozen people before getting on the plane flying to Islamabad. She arrived in the capital at about 9:18 am and was back on her phone. After returning, she didn’t return to her family home but instead went to F-8 for a few hours and then to F-6 at a friend’s place. This is where she contacted her husband at 2:07 pm on July 22.

27/7: The prime suspect, Zahir Jaffer in Noor Mukadam’s murder case, has confessed to committing the crime in front of police. However, he has yet to confess in front of a magistrate by law (under section 164)

The murderer has been booked on the (302) premeditated murder charges of the Pakistan Penal Code. While the accused has taken responsibility for his heinous crime, he has not yet given a precise reason for his actions. According to the reports, Zahir has changed his statements a couple of times regarding his motive for murder.

Footage of CCTV reveals many details of what had happened. Sources reveal that “in the footage, the girl (Noor) can be seen trying to escape from the house by jumping from the first floor and rushing towards the main gate.”

After landing on the ground, Noor was seen running towards the main door but failed to escape. Noor was followed by Zahir and was dragged back inside the house while the guards witnessed everything happening but didn’t help the girl. He then took Noor inside and locked the door. Within three hours, she was murdered.

A knife, a pistol, and an iron mace from the suspect’s possession have been recovered, the public prosecutor, Sajid Cheema, told the court. According to sources in 2016, Geo News says that Zahir Jaffer was jailed for three months in the UK for sexual harassment and rape cases and was deported later.

The murderer is placed on Exit Control List (ECL) to guarantee that he cannot escape to the US.

Baaghi TV reported that police had located Zahir’s phone, and there is evidence that Zahir Jaffer “has a track record of vile and violent behavior towards women.”

Zakir Jaffers, Ismat Adamjee, cook, and guard, arrested

On Sunday, Jaffer’s parents were arrested along with a cook and a guard. They were imprisoned on the charge of concealing the heinous crime of murdering and beheading Noor Mukadam.

After the two-day physical remand, they appeared in the court of Judicial Magistrate Shoaib Akhtar on Tuesday. The court has issued the order for all four suspects to be sent to jail for 14 days. They will be presented at the next hearing on August 10. This means that they will now be imprisoned at Adiala Jail until the next hearing.

Parents Of Zahir Jaffer Issue A Public Notice Regarding The Murder Of Noor Mukadam By Their Son

The parents of Zahir Jaffer, Asmat and Zakir Jaffer have issued a public notice to show their support to the bereaved family on the barbaric murder of Noor Mukadam by their son ‘Zahir Jaffer’. The notice appeared in a leading newspaper today.

 

The notice states that they are “devastated and grief-stricken at the brutal murder of Noor Mukaddam” however there is no mention of the name of their son in this statement. They mention that

‘as parents we cannot begin to imagine the pain that her family is going through ” and have conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul.

While the investigation is under process, many shocking details have been found about the abominable incident that took life of 27 year old Noor Mukadam. Zahir and Noor were in regular contact since Zahir flew back from United States back in December 2019. Since then, he never went back and stayed in Pakistan. During the period of last three months, Zahir tried to reach Noor 68 times while it was intercepted that Noor also tried to reach him 47 times.

According to reports by GEO News, the killer was in constant touch with his family members during 2 pm and 7 pm on July 20th which is when the murder took place.

Before the incident took place on 20th July, Noor and Zahir connected on 18th July after a break of few weeks. Soon after they connected over phone, Noor left her house to meet Zahir. Some reports mentioned that she tried to contact her driver and asked her to arrange seven lacs from anywhere possible, and deliver it to Zahir’s house. The driver could only manage three lacs and handed over the money to Zahir’s servant. ( not yet verified)

Noor’s family was quite concerned by her absence, and they tried to contact her numerous times between 19 and 20 July, to which she could only respond that she is travelling to Lahore on. This was the last message by Noor to her mother on 20th July at 10:56 am after which Zahir took her phone away and started torturing her. From around 11 am till 7:30 pm, Zahir kept torturing Noor. She even tried to escape but she was brutally beaten and dragged back again in the house. The domestic staff of the house also witnessed the whole process which ended when Zahir finally beheaded her. 

Zahir’s family was also in contact with him during this time. The family initially tried to play the US Citizen card but the US embassy kept safe distance from the case and issued a statement “In a foreign country, US citizens are subject to that country’s laws. When Americans are arrested abroad, the Embassy can check on their well-being and provide a list of lawyers, but cannot provide legal advice, participate in court proceedings or effect their release.

The son of a prominent businessman in Pakistan, Zahir Jaffer is in police custody after being found with Noor Mukadam beheaded at his house in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad.

The 27-year-old’s father is Shaukat Mukadam, a former diplomat who served Pakistan as an ambassador to South Korea and Kazakhstan. The barbaric killing of Noor has sent shock waves throughout the nation. The murderer has been booked on the (302) premeditated murder charges of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Noor was laid to rest on July 22nd.

Shahbaz Gill, Prime Minister Imran Khan’s spokesperson and special assistant in political communication, has said that the premier has ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Islamabad not to make any grants while investigating Noor’s case. The court has been asked to investigate the case on a merit basis.

Shireen Mazari, Minister for Human Rights, is also personally invested in the case.

Today, Noor’s father appeared at a press conference where he emphasized that authorities must punish Zahir Jaffer for the brutal murder of his daughter.

He said Zahir Jaffer was sound when found at the crime scene, according to the police. He has no mental disability. He was conducting therapy sessions at Therapyworks and was also the director of a company. And if so, he had mental disabilities, the police must investigate the parents for putting him in the position. They are accomplices in the heinous crime.

He said, “My daughter was innocent and loved animals; I have served the nation, and I want justice”.

Noor’s mother has yet not been able to come to terms with the tragedy.

In recent developments, Zahir’s criminal history has been requested by investigators from the United States and the United Kingdom to Verify his involvement in sexual harassment and rape cases

“The reason for seeking the criminal record is to verify information about his involvement in sexual harassment and rape cases in the UK, which led to his deportation from the country,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation Attaur Rehman told DAWN.

The murderer is placed on Exit Control List (ECL) to guarantee that he cannot escape to the US.
