With the ongoing debate on social media about Geo Television’s latest drama on air ‘Hadsa’ featuring Hadiqa Kiani, Nadia Jamil a survivor of rape and child abuse has shared her thoughts over social media on the drama Haadsa.

She states she is left disgusted and offended at the storyline and script writing the drama is following. She believes the words spoken on national television should have been chosen carefully and are hurtful to those who like herself have gone through this trauma and have lived through it.

Here’s what she has to say about the drama Hadsa:

“ This is disgusting. As a survivor I am offended & disgusted by this comment. For non Urdu speakers the dialogue basically says:

“Like a corpse cannot come back to life,lost honour can never come back.” The disgusting words used 4 rape in Hindi/Urdu is “Izzat luT jaana” “Robbed of one’s Honour”need to be BANNED!

NO HONOUR OF ANY RAPE SURVIVOR IS ROBBED. THOSE WHO RAPED HAD/ HAVE NO HONOUR. THEY are the ones who should feel/be in shame. The narrative of SHAME that is dumped on rape survivors is horrible.

Today movements like #notmyshame Shatter the Shame that survivors of abuse/rape carry. Allowing us to belong to a safe place,a tribe that recognises,the shame was never ours to carry,or suffer,to begin w. Please do not encourage this ugly narrative of shame 4 survivors @harpalgeotv.I respect @hadiqakianiofficial a lot but I believe saying these words was a mistake,that hurts!

Many people watching this May have been raped & its the last thing they need to hear AND its a lie. Izzat hamari hamesha se Mahfouz hee thee aur hain. Our honour/dignity is NOT lost. It is the perpetrators who lost honour/dignity by their ugly act of Rape. Survivors are shattered physically,mentally & emotionally by rape. Their capacity to trust the world or even themselves is shattered. Their ability to live in their own bodies is shattered. Statements like this cement the painful humiliating shame survivors of rape are left with.

The actress also added that showmakers need to ensure that the dialogues their characters are delivering do not hurt the sentiments of people who may have been in that position. She stressed on the deep inustice this dialogue on honour has to rape survivors and asked producers and directors to work with people who have survived such ordeals and conduct thorough research before taking on such projects.

Allow survivors to shatter the shame. Allow them to heal. Please I beg of you,do NOT use such ugly lines in your dramas. You are not only doing a deep injustice to rape survivors but also teaching & spreading ugly values.

Please remember this woman is honourable. She is not dirty or “used” because violent men forced themselves upon her. She is already feeling violated & dirty,do not retraumtise her. Because let me tell you she is real, she is me,& millions of other men,women,children & people of other genders.
People who want 2 make films or dramas on sensitive topics like Rape, PLEASE research & work w survivors & people facilitating healing in survivors, before throwing crap like this out.

After her statement on the choice of dialogue in the drama, Nadia Jamil once again took to Instagram to urge her followers not to bash the actor or the channel and instead encouraged everyone to learn from their mistakes. Jamil instead spoke about this being and important learning curve for the industry, its actors, directors, writers and producers.

Nadia Jamil Wants to Train Children Shelter Staffers to Improve the Children’s Mental Health & Quality of Life

Veteran actress Nadia Jamil previously opened up about adoption as she held little Nuri in her arms.

She took to social media to write ‘Adoption is a wonderful way to have a child. I found it a tougher “labour” process to go through than biological birthing. Nerve-wracking assessments [and] waiting! Imagine if biological parents were interviewed [and] checked for maturity, parenting skills, financial security and dedication the same way!’

These beautiful words by Jamil prove that adoption is a beautiful process and that there is no pre-requisite for family — anyone you choose to love is your family.

Continuing to show her love for children, Jamil introduced her foster sons who she believes are her pride and joy.

How Being Raised in a Toxic Household Negatively Influences Children

She started with the eldest one Sabir and wrote, “Sabir is the eldest on the left. He just finished his matric & is now about to start his GET. Then he wants to apply to the army. He was 4 years old when I first saw him. Used for bonded Labour at a brick factory. He is 17 now. Today he motivates others with his story. Sabr vala bacha mera”.

She then moved to her next hero Ali Rashid and wrote, “He wants to be an actor & an engineer. His earliest memory is selling tea at a stall. His confidence is beautiful. So is his sense of responsibility”.

She then talked about Azaad who was 7 years old when brought to her. She wrote about him, “He has struggled a lot. With learning, settling down, being accepted & trying to fight off his biological mother who wants to make him a beggar. It was tough for him, to learn and to settle down, after a life on the streets of Lahore, sleeping behind freezers”.

She also shared the sad stories of her other foster sons and their heartbreaking stories. While concluding she wrote, “It’s a shame we expect so much resilience from our kids. They have more resilience than most adults I know. They should be playing & being given opportunities to enjoy learning, developing relationships & being loved. Instead, they fight hard 2 survive loneliness & past traumas”.

Now, the veteran wants to train staffers at children’s shelter homes across Pakistan to teach them about the importance of giving love, intimacy, security, and nurturing to children. Moreover, she wants the staff members to be properly assessed for mental health and positive commitment and has asked the Government of Punjab to help her in this mission.

‘Toxic Masculinity is Nausiating, I am a Culprit too as I Watch Dramas like Habs & Fraud’ Nadia Jamil

Veteran actress Nadia Jamil recently opened up about toxic masculinity in Pakistani dramas as the popular drama Kaisi Teri Khudgarzi nears its finale.

While some actors have talked about the increase of toxic masculinity in recent dramas, some have ignored the conversation. Nadia Jamil also shared her two cents as she joined the bandwagon.

The actress voiced her concern about the series and scriptwriters have “set the bar so low” for our onscreen “heroes.” Even journalist Fifi Haroon took to Twitter to tweet her thoughts about the drama by calling it “well-developed.”

She further elaborated that young naive girls such as Mahek (Dur-e-Fishan Saleem) are bound to fall in love with men like Shamsher (Danish Taimoor), and dismiss their red flags when they start “behaving better.”

In response, Nadia Jamil pointed out a number of misogynistic acts carried out by the lead character for which he was never held accountable in the show.

She wrote:

Um, he tortures her father and brother and has them locked up. Kidnaps her, humiliates and forces her to marry him against her will, then imprisons her in his house and loses his sh** when she visits her father. He also continues to harass her family and insults the life out of her.

Jamil further added that the majority of Pakistani writers dub toxic and abusive male characters as “heroes,” whereas that is not true in real life.

“In real life, men are decapitating women and beating them to death. At least in this drama, he [Shamsher] didn’t burn her [Mahek] or beat her to a pulp. It’s just that we set the bar so low when we are writing our heroes. Also, now the Shamsher’s wicked father is all remorseful and giving himself up to the police too,” she added

Later, a fan requested the actor to stop contributing to the viewership of such dramas that write toxic men into lauded heroes.

In response, Jamil confessed to playing her part in promoting such narratives. “Toxic masculinity is nauseating. I am a culprit as I watch many dramas propagating it. Even in Habs and Fraud, the men are so controlling and misogynistic,”

Pakistani actor Nadia Jamil has been an inspiration to women not only across the country but also the world. The cancer survivor has been sharing her tough yet inspiring story on social media, and man, are we PROUD! Recently, the Balu Mahi actress opened up about what it means to become a mother through the process of adoption.

While sharing her sentiments for her adopted daughter Nuri, she penned that adoption is a wonderful way to have a child. Moreover, she added that the process is tougher than biological birthing because it is extremely nerve-wracking, longer, the assessments and interviews are super hard and moreover, a parent needs to be able to provide security and financial security to the child which is also a tough job.

She tweeted;

Adoption is a wonderful way 2 hv a child.I found it a tougher “Labour”process 2 go through than biological birthing.Nerve wracking assessments/waiting! Imagine if biological parents were interviewed/checked 4 maturity,parenting skills,financial security & dedication the same way!

She further wrote that she is highly privileged and is thrilled to have her daughter Nuri as a part of her family.

When a Twitter user pointed out that adopted children are not eligible for inheritance, the actor said, “Who needs an inheritance when she can be gifted everything in my lifetime? “All children are a blessing,” said another netizen, adding that there is more than one way to have a child.

Nadia Jamil Endures Heartless & Rude Treatment by British Airways at London Heathrow Airport

Pakistani actress Nadia Jamil uploaded a video of her helpless and teary-eyed at the London Heathrow Airport. She struggled to gather any energy to get into a cab with her luggage after not being allowed to board a flight due to a problem with her documents.

Jamil was diagnosed with breast cancer/grade 3 tumor and has now recovered. However, it has left her weak and fragile. Jamil was traveling back to Pakistan to see her family and her kids after 2 years and had to undergo such harsh treatment by British Airways staff.

She said in her tweet: “Shocking @British_Airways. I came 2 the airport at 6.30 pm. 11 pm this is me. Drained, alone. I had informed the staff of my health. Why would they leave me like this? I kept speaking out 4 someone’s 2 help. Everyone ignored me after offloading me. At least help me a little. Bad show”

She said in the following tweet that she has never been so intimidated, humiliated, and helpless in her life. The British Airways staff left Jamil on terminal 5. She said:

“How did you expect me to wheelchair myself & 3 suitcases back 2 Cambridge from Heathrow?”

Jamil, unfortunately, had incorrect documents and had to be offloaded. She was left alone in a wheelchair with heavy luggage around. She tagged the airline in her tweet and said,

“Please have the decency to assist them with their luggage to their transport. I fainted in the cab!”

The airline’s official Twitter did respond to Nadia’s tweets, but their response was unsatisfactory.

If this had been Pakistan, every person in the airport would run to help a person in a wheelchair struggling to get to her transport. Some would go a step further and drop her somewhere safe.

Pakistani actress Nadia Jamil was diagnosed with breast cancer/grade 3 tumor in April last year.  She reminded us that regular self-checks are important and must be taken into consideration by all. The actress is finally feeling better. In a post, she announced that her hair is growing back, which she is grateful for.

She was rather actively informing her fans of her condition.

She wrote in a post:

Getting my hair back. I guess I’ll be needing it 2 get back in2 acting on desi TV again. So Shukar Alhamdolillah 🙏🏽 But I will never 4get facing & overcoming the fear of being bald, of feeling beautiful w no hair. Bald Nado taught me how 2b my own best friend. She fought Cancer, suicidal depression, debilitating arthritis, diabetes, during Covid lockdowns and she fought knowing she had to fight alone. What a blessing I have been to myself. May you be a blessing to yourself as well. Here’s rejoicing you and me, our resilience and every breath that brings with it the miracle of being alive. Love love love you! On the contrary, one would think after fighting cancer, and depression, and having arthritis, and diabetes one would feel super low. However, Jamil looks rather fresh with little hair on her head with her joking about growing them back to make a come back to TV where she originally belongs, on our screens, playing remarkable characters. This might as well be a hint for screenwriters to write a play that fits Jamil’s appearance for now.

Fighting cancer is not easy. The treatment shakes you inside out. Regardless, Jamil has her spirits high and looks forward to welcoming what is ahead of her with open arms.

Pakistani dramatist, playwright, and scriptwriter Haseena Moin also commented on the post. She then said she started her journey with Haseena Moin’s drama and might also restart again with it.
