‘Toxic Masculinity is Nausiating, I am a Culprit too as I Watch Dramas like Habs & Fraud’ Nadia Jamil

Veteran actress Nadia Jamil recently opened up about toxic masculinity in Pakistani dramas as the popular drama Kaisi Teri Khudgarzi nears its finale.

While some actors have talked about the increase of toxic masculinity in recent dramas, some have ignored the conversation. Nadia Jamil also shared her two cents as she joined the bandwagon.

The actress voiced her concern about the series and scriptwriters have “set the bar so low” for our onscreen “heroes.” Even journalist Fifi Haroon took to Twitter to tweet her thoughts about the drama by calling it “well-developed.”

She further elaborated that young naive girls such as Mahek (Dur-e-Fishan Saleem) are bound to fall in love with men like Shamsher (Danish Taimoor), and dismiss their red flags when they start “behaving better.”

In response, Nadia Jamil pointed out a number of misogynistic acts carried out by the lead character for which he was never held accountable in the show.

She wrote:

Um, he tortures her father and brother and has them locked up. Kidnaps her, humiliates and forces her to marry him against her will, then imprisons her in his house and loses his sh** when she visits her father. He also continues to harass her family and insults the life out of her.

Jamil further added that the majority of Pakistani writers dub toxic and abusive male characters as “heroes,” whereas that is not true in real life.

“In real life, men are decapitating women and beating them to death. At least in this drama, he [Shamsher] didn’t burn her [Mahek] or beat her to a pulp. It’s just that we set the bar so low when we are writing our heroes. Also, now the Shamsher’s wicked father is all remorseful and giving himself up to the police too,” she added

Later, a fan requested the actor to stop contributing to the viewership of such dramas that write toxic men into lauded heroes.

In response, Jamil confessed to playing her part in promoting such narratives. “Toxic masculinity is nauseating. I am a culprit as I watch many dramas propagating it. Even in Habs and Fraud, the men are so controlling and misogynistic,”

Dania Enwer Shares Horrible Experience of Working with Feroze Khan

Feroze Khan has become the talk of the town after his wife (soon-to-be ex-wife) Aliza Sultan submitted evidence of domestic violence in court.

Since then, many celebrities and netizens have called him out for raising his hands on Aliza and schooled him. Moreover, Khan took to social media to clarify that he had done no such thing after the internet buzzed with the images.

During this fiasco, drama serial Habs actress Dania Enwer also took to social media to describe her experience of working with Khan.

She stated that her fans have asked her often about her experience, and she usually ignored to answer, but she felt that now is the correct time to reply. Enwer shared that Khan is a very difficult person to work with.

He has made unpleasant, degrading remarks on women in general, which were extremely hard to cope with. Moreover, she mentions that the last day of the shoot was the most painful (but doesn’t mention further details).

She wrote:

I hope all the fans who kept asking me ‘please tell us how was your experience…’ many reasons why I didn’t respond. I never knew him before this project but while working, it was unpleasent, degrogatory remarks on women in general were not easy to cope with. My last day of shoot with him was the most painful to deal with.

Habs director Musaddiq Malek also shared his two cents on the matter, moreover, he also requested the audience to keep the art (drama) separated from the artist (Feroze Khan0 and continue to show their support.

Netizens React to Hilarious Ketchup Scene from Pakistani Drama Serial “Habs”

Social media is having a field day as a clip from the Pakistani drama serial ‘Habs’ starring Feroze Khan and Ushna Shah is going viral.

In the clip, we can see a girl leaving in a bad mood, but before she does, she takes a couple of slices of pizza before excising herself.

After she leaves, Zoya’s husband Amir is the one to point out   “Ketchup bhi nahi leke gayi woh,”  before angrily demanding to know, “aap logo ko ho kya gaya hai?” from his parents.

Netizens and meme creators did not hold back and started to make fun of the scene raising the question of why the ketchup was more important than him going after his wife.

This is not the first time Pakistani drama has been the centre of a laugh fest. As more and more shows come out, there have been concerns starting to be raised about the scripts promoting misogynist behaviour in men and weak female characters, as well as toxic in-laws.

Instead of showing how mature, stable, independent, and caring these female characters are and how they’ve beautifully managed to maintain the work-life balance, they are labelled as greedy, materialistic or even too career-oriented and ambitious women who don’t give two cents about their families.

This perception of women is not only dangerous to feed into young minds, but is also largely incorrect.

Not too long ago, Urwa Hocane also opened up about picking and choosing roles carefully or promoting changes in the scripts as stories these days show women as weak and dependent.

She went on to add that the industry has started to romanticize abuse and harassment of women and the younger generation which has started to become a cause of concern.
