- Days after the Karachi incident, a sexual harassment incident occurs in Islamabad F9 park
- The Sindh Police have filed an FIR on behalf of the state against the man involved in the failed sexual assault attempt
- Sexual harassment cases are on the rise across the country, with 15 gang rape cases reported in the city from January 2023 to April 2023
Videos of two sexual harassment incidents have been circulating on social media. These men are not the first and unfortunately won’t be the last.
The indecent actions make us question what will come of the safety of women in Pakistan.
What Happened:
Almost a week after having failed to arrest a man that tried to sexually assault a girl in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of Karachi escaped a rape attempt, the Sindh Police have registered a case against the culprit on the state’s behalf.
Soon after the Eidul Azha holidays on July 4, a video on social media went viral.
In the video, a masked man on a motorcycle parked his vehicle in front of an unidentified house and took off his shorts. He waited for a few seconds and then ran behind a woman carrying groceries.
The woman acted instantly and escaped what seemed like a rape attempt. Not only was the man’s face not recognizable, but his motorcycle also did not bear any number plate (making it difficult for law-enforcement agencies to apprehend him).
Initial investigations indicate that the incident occurred on July 3, and almost a week has passed but the police have failed to identify the culprit. They have recorded the statements of witnesses present at and near the crime scene.

A report published earlier this year finds that there had been a 200 percent increase in rape cases in Sindh alone in 2022 with a conviction rate of less than one percent.
As compared to 142 rape cases recorded in 2021 in Sindh, 2022 saw an increase up to 414. The highest number of cases were reported in Karachi East (185).
