Everyone loves applying waterproof mascara, isn’t it? It doesn’t smudge the whole day even when you rub your eyes by mistake. Moreover, waterproof mascara is a lash curlers’ only best friend; it holds that lash curl perfectly and accentuates your overall look.
But we all know this thing is no joke! No matter how much we love applying waterproof mascara, we all dread removing it. Who hasn’t rubbed their eye lids raw and ended up littering their lower lash line with remaining black residue specks for days? Therefore, we have come up with a list of 5 simple and easy steps on how to remove mascara in the gentlest way possible. Point to note- ‘patience is key’!
Step 1: Coat Your Lashes with Regular Mascara First
Instead of applying coats of waterproof mascara, it’s always best to apply a regular one first and then top-coat it with the waterproof formula. This way the bare lashes and the waterproof mascara won’t be in contact directly, making the removal process a lot easier. You can even use a lash primer if you have one. Lash primers help give your lashes that extra length and volume and make them stay hydrated and moisturized.
Step 2: Invest in an Oil-Based Remover
If you’re an avid waterproof mascara user, you must invest in an oil-based remover, specifically made for waterproof makeup. Since water repels oil, oil-based cleansers provide the much-needed smoothness and prevent unnecessary rubbing and friction. For people who have sensitive or dry eyes, you can also use a cleansing balm or micellar water as an alternative. You can even used olive oil or coconut oil, whichever is easily available.
Step 3: Use Cotton Pads & just Soak It Off!
Take two cotton swabs and generously soak them in eye-makeup remover. If you’re concerned about wasting too much product, you can take the some product on your finger tips and gently rub their around your eye lid. Now, try holding one above the lashes and one under and let them sit for 10 to 20 seconds. Now we know, all one wants to do after getting home is hit the sack, but trust us, this little hack and a little bit of patience will save your eyes and you from so much hassle! Now after letting it sit for a while, gently swipe the pads across the lid in a back and forth motion, rather than a circular one.
Step 4: Clean the Residue with Cotton Swabs
Use a cotton swab or cotton buds to remove any of the extra residue flecks sitting at the corner of your eye or lower lash line. Don’t forget to dip the swab in the makeup removing fluid.
Step 5: Finally- Don’t forget to Cleanse & Moisturize
Once the mascara is off, it’s time to cleanse your entire face with a gentle cleanser. And finally tone and then moisturize. This is important to do before going to bed, so that the entire face is clean and free of makeup. This also helps to get rid of any stubborn eye-makeup bits.
The mascara removal process is all about patience and being gentle with your eyes. Don’t rush the process. Also, it’s advised to use the waterproof formula occasionally rather than on a daily basis. Let your lashes breath every once a while for them to be healthier!\
