Pakistani crooner Meesha Shafi is a well-known household name. She had previously accused the popular actor-cum-singer Ali Zafar of sexual harassment. Since then, the case has been in court.
According to some recent developments and sources, Shafi ‘admitted’ to giving a false statement in court during the defamation case. But, Shafi has denied this saying that it is ‘misinformation’.
So what happened?
Some sources started to claim that the singer was cross-examined via video link as Additional Sessions Judge Khan Mahmood heard the defamation case – filed by Ali Zafar (who was also present).
During the online hearing, Advocate Tariq Gul questioned Shafi about the evidence of sexual harassment she had submitted. The evidence was reportedly a photograph of both celebs which she uploaded on social media.
The lawyer argued that the picture could not be considered evidence of sexual harassment because she was the one who uploaded it with the caption “tonight we party”.
At first, Shafi stated that she can’t verify if she had posted the picture on her Facebook account. However, she later admitted to posting the said picture but was unable to verify the caption, adding that the said picture is available on her Facebook account.
Ms. Shafi claimed she felt harassed while taking this picture with Ali Zafar. However, she later goes on to post this picture on her own Facebook along with the caption “tonight we party…”She tried to deny that she didn’t but admitted after confronted with her own FB account. pic.twitter.com/kGCFQZ9Mdm

Furthermore, Zafar’s lawyer asked Meesha about her claim that the court never summoned her, after which he claims to notice a ‘deliberate misrepresentation’ of a court order. Meesha Shafi responded that it was a ‘slip of the tongue’. Another cross-examination has been ordered by the court against Meesha Shafi for 1st March.
However, despite what the sources have claimed, which includes well-known publications and TV channels, Shafi has denied any such claim. She took to her Instagram to claim that the news is pure misinformation and that no such thing has happened.
Meesha Shafi vs Ali Zafar
In 2018, Pakistani singer and actress Meesha Shafi made headlines when she accused fellow singer Ali Zafar of sexual harassment. The case not only sparked widespread debate and conversation about sexual harassment in the country but also highlighted the importance of providing a safe and harassment-free workplace for everyone.
Shafi took to social media to share her story, saying that Zafar had subjected her to sexual harassment on multiple occasions. She said that Zafar had made physical advances towards her without her consent and that she had been subjected to sexual innuendo and lewd comments from him. She also claimed that when she had spoken out about the harassment, she was met with threats and intimidation from Zafar and his team.
Whereas Ali Zafar denied these allegations and has been sticking to his side of the story since day 1. He claimed that the allegations were false and motivated by malice and an attempt to damage his reputation. The legal battle between the two singers continued for months, with both parties presenting their versions of events to the court.
In the years since the case, both Shafi and Zafar have continued their music careers, with each garnering a significant following. However, the allegations and the ensuing legal battle have left a mark on both artists’ reputations, with many fans divided on the issue.
