Muneeb Butt had become part of controversy due to his problematic statement in Nida Yasir’s show back in September.
Host Nida Yasir and another guest were engaging in a friendly conversation with Muneeb on the show. During the conversation, Muneeb asked Nida what her biggest fear was. Nida responded by saying that her biggest fear is her husband marrying for the second time.
To this, Muneeb responded jokingly, “Yay dur hona chahiyay. Yay dur hur khatoon mein hona chahiyay. Iisiliyay apko chahiyay kay ap apnay husband ko pamper kurain. Apko khayal rukhna chahiyay. Itni mohabbat daini chahiyay kay unka dosri turaf mind hi nahi jaye [Women should stay in constant fear that their husbands will do second marriage. In this way, they will shower more love towards their husbands].”
During an interview with BBC that came out yesterday, he talked about this particular controversy again. He said, “I said something else, and it turned out to be something else. I said it jokingly, it was just a joke. You took that joke completely out of the context, made headlines out of it that Muneeb Butt wants every woman to live in constant fear and God knows what they spread about me, but it didn’t affect me. The next day I said what I wanted to say in my video. Sensible people understood what I said and those people who don’t have any humor I cannot say anything to them”.
Later, he uploaded a lengthy video on YouTube clarifying his stance in the video. He said small blogs produce clickbait headlines for a few followers and create controversies.
