7 Pakistani Brands Committed to Raise Awareness on Breast Cancer this Pinktober

October is officially a breast cancer awareness month across the globe.

As per the Journal of the Pakistan Medical Association (JPMA), in Pakistan, approximately 90,000 new cases are diagnosed every year, out of which 40,000 die.

Besides that, lack of breastfeeding, diet, less parity, and smoking are most significantly associated with breast cancer in women. A short breast examination can often prevent cancer and protect women from the most horrifying and horrendous nightmare of their lives.

Pakistani brands understand how much of a threat breast cancer is to women in Pakistan, and they also recognize how shame is associated with getting breasts examined in the country. So with their influence and reach, the brands come forward every year in October to spread awareness through pamphlets, campaigns, ads, lighting buildings pink, discounts, and much more.

1 – TPL Insurance

TPL insurance is offering Women Shield healthcare coverage as the treatment for cancer is quite costly. The company has come out with a discount code upon downloading its mobile application.

2 – The Hunar Foundation

Hunar Foundation is dedicated to offering students a high-quality learning environment of international standards. This pinktober, they have pledged to come together and act as responsible human beings. “Let’s join hands in spreading awareness of this deadly disease.

3 – KFC

KFC Pakistan has also posted on its social media platform to raise awareness. In the fight against this deadly disease, the fast-food chain wants you to help them spread the word.

4 –  Patel Hospital

Patel hospital is offering free consultation clinic this month which will allow more women to head to the clinic and get examined. Additionally, the Patel hospital provides a 20% discount on mammography, ultrasound, and guided core biopsy.

5 – Telenor

To show solidarity with the pinktober cause and spread awareness about breast cancer, Telenor Pakistan’s head office has gone pink

6 – Pearl Continental Peshawar

Pearl-Continental Hotel Peshawar illuminated pink in honor of Breast Cancer awareness. They said on their official Facebook page, “We are supporting the fighters, admiring the survivors, honoring the taken, and never, ever giving up hope.”

Breast Cancer Warrior Asma Nabeel Remembered as Remarkable Screenwriter, Advertising Hotshot by Fans & Fraternity

Renowned Pakistani screenwriter, Asma Nabeel passed away last night in Karachi after a long struggle with breast cancer. Fans and fraternity started pouring in their condolences and remembered her as a breast cancer warrior, a phenomenal screenwriter, an advertising hotshot, motivational speaker and of course a ray of sunlight.  In the span of 2 decades, Asma was able to touch our lives with her work, her motivation, and her dedication.

A Phenomenal Screenwriter

Asma made her debut as a screenwriter after working for the advertising world for a decade or so ( till 2015). She wrote scripts and screenplays of popular drama serials Khaani, Khuda Mera Bhi Hai and the film Maan Jao Na. Her playwrights narrated stories attached to taboo topics in our society. Just recently, Asma also owned a production house, Crew Motion Pictures which will produce the feature film Fly – a film that tackles the taboo subject of breast cancer.

She is a lyricist of a song for the Indian film Helicopter Eela and has also written OST’s for Baandi and Ai Zindagi and has also unveiled her first Urdu poetry book by the name of Beydaari.

Advertising Hotshot

Asma was a big shot in the advertising industry, she dedicated 10 years of her life to the advertising industry, where she excelled in her work. She initially worked as a copywriter at Manhattan Leo Burnett, IAL, Creative director at JWT for 4 years, Creative Head at Orientm McCann for 5 years and Chief creative officer at Walter for 5 months.

She was also Pond’s Miracle Woman in 2015 and has been complemented by FEMINAUAE in the field of Arts. She was a nominee at the Lux style awards 2019 as Best Writer & also Nominee for Hum style awards 2019 as Best Writer.

Motivational Speaker

Asma spoke about her victory after battling cancer at Cannes Lions ROAR Pakistan organized by Pakistan Advertising Society (PAS) in collaboration with Jang Media Group. She spoke extensively about how she endured through the tough moments of her life to motivate other women suffering at the hands of breast cancer.

While battling the disease and beating it, Asma had garnered a reputation as a fierce breast cancer survivor/awareness advocate in the country. On several occasions, she would address women fighting the disease. In one of her speeches, she said: “Keep your faith strong and fight it out; that is the key to success and survival”.

Aurat Kahani Asma Nabeel Ke Sath

After recovering from breast cancer for the first time, she appeared in her show called Aurat Kahani Asma Nabeel Ke Sath. In the show, Asma invited strong Pakistani women to understand their extraordinary journey to success. The show was aired on YouTube on Public News’ channel.

Modelled For Breast Cancer Campaign

After recovering from a life-threatening disease, Asma modelled many campaigns to raise awareness about breast cancer. She was a fierce breast cancer awareness advocate.

Special appearance in Designer Ali Xeeshan’s breast cancer awareness campaign ‘Pardeh Mein Parwah.’

The country’s top fashion designer, Ali Xeeshan, came out with a campaign called ‘Pardeh Mein Parwah’ and designed “The Veil Of Care”. It aimed to drive awareness of the disease and provide an active reminder with instructions on how to check oneself so women can tackle this hurdle related to the illness. The dupatta (veil) featured poetry from Asma alongside traditional embroidered motif patterns and pink ribbon. It comes with a small booklet knotted in English and Urdu that elaborates the correct way to check your breasts.

Later on, the campaign was redone by a local brand called Generations which produced the same product which was available to the masses at affordable prices.

Pakistan has the highest rate of Breast Cancer in Asia: with over 90,000 breast cancer cases reported every year, 1 in 9 Pakistani women has become breast cancer patients at some stage of life. Almost half of these women die. A significant reason for this high number is the lack of awareness and the cultural taboo and stigma associated with women’s breasts in Pakistan – a mere discussion is considered immoral. Women hesitate to get their breasts checked or even check themselves on the grounds of modesty – this becomes a significant barrier in the early prevention of the disease.

Ali Xeeshan Partner’s With Breast Cancer Warrior Asma Nabeel to Highlight the Importance of Women’s Health

Ali Xeeshan is a phenomenal Pakistani designer who is known for extending his vision beyond fashion. In his latest campaign, the designer collaborated with pink warrior Asma Nabeel, a breast cancer survivor, to highlight the importance of women’s health on international woman’s day.  It often happens that women’s health doesn’t receive its due attention in Pakistan, but the designer has finally taken up the initiative.

Why is Asma Nabeel the perfect fit for the campaign?

Asma Nabeel is the perfect fit for the #PardayMeinParwah campaign as the screenwriter, poet, producer and creative consultant who has fought cancer twice and is still very positive and ready to pose in front of the camera to spread awareness. The designer came out with a dupatta that reminds us to care for our health and, at the same time, safeguards our modesty.

The designer’s page posted a caption with a picture of Asma Nabeel that said, “Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer in Asia with over 85,000+ cases every year. The disease can be prevented if caught at an early stage, except their hesitation to check themselves becomes a barrier. Ali Xeeshan joined hand with the pink warrior; Asma Nabeel, to bring you a dupatta that not only reminds you to care for your health but also safeguards your modesty. #PardayMeinParwah ab zaroori hai!

Ali Xeeshan took it to his Instagram to speak about the matter. He said, “1 in every 9 women in Pakistan suffers from breast cancer, and almost half of them die every year. Ali Xeeshan collaborated with the pink warrior; Asma Nabeel, and brought to life a dupatta that reminds you to check yourselves while guarding your modesty. #Pardaymeinparwah”

Asma has extensively worked in the industry and is a mother of 2 young children.

Previously, the designer executed a wonderful campaign which was admired by all. His bridal collection, Numaish X UN Women, won many hearts for its fashion film that depicted society’s ugly face. Most families collect dowry for their daughters, including all necessary items for a new home, even today.
