In a heartfelt social media post, a mother shared her distressing experience with Airblue, highlighting the challenges she faced as a differently-abled woman. She recounted how, despite booking a ticket back to Karachi, she was denied boarding due to not having an attendant. This requirement, she noted, was not communicated when she made her reservation, nor was it readily available on the airline’s website.

Lack of empathy from the Airline’s Staff towards differently-abled individuals

Feeling sidelined and ignored, she expressed her disappointment at the lack of empathy and understanding from the airline’s staff. As the departure time drew near, she watched as other passengers boarded, while she remained stranded, unable to be with her 4-year-old daughter in Karachi.

This incident is not an isolated one, she noted, pointing out a pattern of neglect towards disabled passengers. She called for airlines like Airblue to stop treating disabled individuals as inconveniences and to recognize their humanity. She emphasized the need for change, urging for more empathy, compassion, and equal treatment for all passengers, regardless of their physical abilities.

Social Media Expressed Solidarity

In response to her post, many on social media expressed solidarity with her plight, highlighting the need for greater awareness and sensitivity towards disabled passengers. Some shared similar experiences, while others called for airlines to review their policies and ensure they are inclusive and transparent.

The post sparked a broader conversation about the challenges faced by disabled individuals in Pakistan and the importance of ensuring their rights and dignity are respected in all aspects of life, including air travel.

Airblue Staff Receives criticism for Refusing a Child with Down’s Syndrome to Board the Plane

On March 13th, a family of 11 was put through hours of misery at the Peshawar Airport because a 13-year-old child among them, with Down’s Syndrome, was refused entry on the aircraft. 

In a lengthy post on social media, the child’s mother narrated what had escalated. The family was set to travel on Airblue flight PA-603 from Peshawar to Karachi – all boarding passes were issued. As soon as the family approached boarding, they were asked to leave the child with Down’s Syndrome behind.

As per the child’s mother, the Airblue staffer asked her if the child would “misbehave on the plane or cause any other trouble,” She assured them that “he won’t be a problem.”

“She [the staffer] then informed a superior of hers, and the superior officer outright told me that I will have to leave my child here at the airport as they will not allow him to board the plane because he might be a nuisance,” she stated.

Things got ugly as the mother, and the staffer got into a verbal argument. The mother accused the staffer of gaslighting her for being ’emotional.’

The story received massive attention online and has been circulating on social media for more than a week. People can’t fathom what the mother must have gone through. Differently-abled people must be treated equally. If there are concerns with their presence on board, the airline must have appropriate policies.

Following the backlash Airblue received online, the airline has finally responded. It stated that “One of our ground staff checked on the child as he made some loud noises. As per SOP, staff inquired if he felt good to travel.”

The airline added that the family had taken offense when the staff inquired. Regardless, the staffer had apologized and “the family boarded and traveled.” “..We [the airline] are hosting additional training sessions for our staff,” the airline stated.

A Couple Kissing on Karachi to Islamabad Airblue Flight has Stirred a Debate on Social Media

Public display of affection is not something we often witness in Pakistan or other Muslim countries as strict laws apply. Those who dare to cross the law are heavily fined and jailed as well.

A video of a passenger from an AirBlue flight has been making rounds on social media where the passenger narrates his encounter with a couple on a flight on the 20th of May from Karachi to Islamabad. According to the passenger, the couple was busy getting intimate on the plane.

In Pakistan, under section 294 of the Pakistan Panel Code (PPC) states: “Whoever, to the annoyance of others; a) does any obscene act in any public place, or b) sings, recites or utters any obscene songs, ballad or words, in or near any public place, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three months, or with fine, or with both.”

Naturally, the families sitting around them didn’t feel comfortable and complained to the cabin crew about their behaviour. Much to their surprise, even after the air hostess asked them to stop, they started kissing. Upon another complaint, the hostess handed the couple a blanket, so they don’t make other people uncomfortable on the flight. They continued with their lewdness under the covers.

At the end of the flight, the couple stood up to tell people who complained to the crew that they have no right to interfere with their privacy.  The passenger submitted a complaint to the airline but didn’t receive any response as yet.

The story is for sure comical, so it did divide social media and cause a debate on whether the couple was right or wrong. Many also created memes and other jokes on Twitter just for a good laugh and to remind people of their hypocrisy.
