Once again, Shaniera Akram has taken to her Instagram to give sound advice to brands with regards to responsible packaging and marketing of their products. She has been actively involved in cleaning up litter on Karachi beaches and is now strongly advocating recycling as a priority. Previously, she urged the authorities and the public to start working together to keep the city clean and contribute to making it a safe space to live in.
It Isn’t Only the Public’s Fault, Brands Must Also Take Responsibility
She wrote on her Instagram, “I’m not putting our whole rubbish problem on the people of our country I think it’s high time the companies of our packaged food products take some responsibility too.” She addressed Pakistani brands saying, “To all the big food companies, If you want to start marketing your products in the right way, then we as consumers need you to start impressing us a bit more.”

The Concept of Recycling
Plastic waste is a substantial environmental problem around the world. So it made sense for brands to reuse the same plastic. A water bottle possibly not a Pakistani brand of which Shaniera took a picture said, “Rehydrate, Recycle, Repeat”.
She makes a strong statement saying,
A product that’s packaging will eventually be collected and recycled and not thrown on a beach or road then eventually buried in a landfill or clogging up our sewerage systems, will be much more appealing to buy than its competitor.”
Even though it is urged to buy a reusable water bottle, we always find ourselves in situations where we have to buy water for ourselves that come in plastic bottles. Wouldn’t it be best for brands to market products such as the picture and use a material that can be recycled? She said, “The words written on this bottle of water could be the answer to so many of our countries problems. We trust in the products we consume, and we trust in you to be responsible and help us take control of our rubbish problem.”
A World Where Litter is Taken Care Of Responsibly
We can all dream of the world to become a better place to live in and for generations to come after us. She said, “If you help us and start taking charge and recycle the millions of wrappers, cans, bottles, and papers that you sell us, we as a country will do our bit to help. If we want anything to change for Pakistan, we need to stop looking at indifferences and start Working together.”
Recycling Should Top 2021 Goals
She concluded, “Imagine if every bottle of water you drink, can of soft drink, fast food container or chip packet you eat would get recycled and be used for good rather than lying in our gutters and waterways?? Imagine the possibilities of getting ahead of our problem! Let’s start to seriously look hard at the future for the betterment of everyone who lives here #Recycle #SingleUsePlastics #2021goals #Pakistan #Future.”
Shaniera Akram Appeals To CBC Again Regarding Pollution of Karachi & it’s Beaches
Shaniera alongside her husband, Akram first found medical waste dumped on the beach, which was unacceptable. She appealed the authorities to look into the matter as the dump was destroying the environment and a biological hazard.
Besides educating the masses about the litter problem, Shaniera also promotes consuming fewer animals and more vegetables, fruits and plants on her Instagram. Have something to add? Let us know in the comment section below.
