- The selected designs are being sent to international designers for finalization, with no release date or exchange guidelines announced yet.
- The SBP previously held a design competition, recognizing local artists, with Dr. Sherry Abdi, Mirza Haroon Khan, and Ms. Hadiya Hassan among the winners.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has completed an extensive review process and has shortlisted new designs for the country’s currency notes.
The central bank has selected designs for denominations ranging from 10 to 5,000 rupees, with two designs each chosen for the 10-rupee, 500-rupee, and 5,000-rupee notes.
Fatima Jinnah’s image will be featured on the 500-rupee note, while Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah will appear on the 10, 20, 100, 500, and 5,000-rupee notes. The 1,000-rupee note will showcase an image of Liaquat Ali Khan, along with a chain of hands depicted on the reverse side.
The SBP has announced that the new designs will be forwarded to international designers for further refinement, and the final versions will be decided after this process.
However, the release date for the new notes and the guidelines for exchanging old notes for new ones have yet to be disclosed.

Earlier, in January 2024, the State Bank of Pakistan invited the public to submit designs for the new currency notes as part of the effort to replace the existing bank notes. The SBP commended the participation of local artists and designers in the competition.
The winners of the design competition were also announced by the central bank: Dr. Sherry Abdi secured first place for her 10-rupee note design, with the second prize going to artist and designer Mirza Sufyan. Mirza Haroon Khan was recognized for the 20-rupee note, while the 100-rupee and 5,000-rupee note prizes were awarded to artist and designer Ms. Maimoona Afzal.
Ms. Hadiya Hassan took the top prize for the 500-rupee note, and Ms. Noreen Aslam won the award for the 1,000-rupee note. Karim Muhammad was honored with the prize for the 5,000-rupee note.
