Yet again Pakistan’s nursing fraternity has added another achievement to its feat. Our very own Dr. Rozina Karmaliani has secured herself as the first Pakistani nurse to be inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (AAN), effective from October 29, 2022, in Washington, DC.
Karmaliani is the Dean of the Aga Khan University School of Nursing and Midwifery (AKU-SONAM). Over the years, almost 3,000 individuals have been inducted at AAN, but Karmaliani is the first and only member within Pakistan as well as Central and South Asian regions.
“I am truly honoured to be representing Pakistan on such an important global platform. With the rapidly shifting trends in healthcare, it is crucial for nurses from the developing world to have a seat at the table where important policy dialogues and decision-making takes place, so they can have a bigger impact on healthcare outcomes and nursing practice on this side of the world,” she stated.
Dr. Rozina Karmaliani is the first alumna dean to have been associated with the Aga Khan University for nearly 3 decades serving the institution in various leadership, research and academic capacities. She will be recognized for her work at AAN’s annual Health Policy Conference.
The AAN Fellowship is the highest honour bestowed to nursing professionals in healthcare through education, practice, research, and policy. The nomination and selection of members is a rigorous process. The inductees are expected to make an impact on future healthcare policies.
We are extremely proud of Karmaliani for this achievement and wish her the very best in all of her future endeavours.
