Karachi’s Lyari is known to be the home of many athletes but little does everyone know that it is also the home of trailblazing women who are breaking gender stereotypes. One such amazing woman is Mahnoor.
After taking a divorce from her former partner, Mahnoor took up the responsibility to raise and feed 3 children on her own. That is when she decided to take control of her life for the sake of her children and sit in the seat that has changed her life.
Going against society and breaking the shackles that bind a woman, Mahnoor started a pick and drop off service. In an interview with ARY News, she opened up about her hardships and how she made the decision to turn her hobby into her profession.
I learned to drive as my hobby but never knew that it would become my profession someday. Driving in Karachi especially when you are a woman is not an easy task but since I’ve been driving for so long, there’s no vehicle that I cannot drive.
She continues to share;
One thing that I learned from life is when you stop giving importance to what people say behind your back and start living for yourself you can do anything. I always turn my difficulties into my strength and that’s the the best solution.
Many women like Mahnoor have turned to skilled jobs to run their households. Asides from driving, females have also opened food stalls across the cities and have opened small businesses on the road-sides.
One day, Mahnoor inspires to establish a platform that can empower women who are going through or have been through similar situations as her. Listen to her interview below:
