The first women’s livestock market in Sindh will facilitate women, buyers, and sellers.
In Sindh’s Tando Allahyar, under the European Union-funded Growth for Rural Advancement and Sustainable Progress (GRASP), a first-ever Marui Women’s Livestock Market was organized by the district administration in collaboration with The Research and Development Foundation.
What is the Purpose of the Women’s Livestock?
The purpose of organizing the women’s livestock market was to encourage livestock farmers and SMEs led by women for business and trade in this particular sector.
As astonishing as it may sound, four hundred women made their way towards the market with their livestock herders and farmers to sell their animals. Almost 500 buyers also made their way towards the market, both men and women, to purchase goats, sheep, and cattle.

Other than livestock, women also put up stalls of products related to livestock, such as desi ghee, butter, green fodder, and other accessories. Some women also went ahead and set up the outlets of food and tea products.
In rural areas of Sindh, livestock is the second major livelihood source in which primarily women are engaged. The Vice-Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam, Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri, said women often manage livestock in usual cases. Still, they barely market their animals in the country, specifically in rural areas. However, this particular movement will initiate that and as a result, it will empower rural women economically and socially.
This was indeed a wonderful initiative for women’s economic empowerment through local resources such as livestock business. Other provinces must follow this example.
