British-Pakistani Amna Akhtar, the co-founder of Girl Dreamer, has been featured in Forbes 30 Under 30 List in the Social Impact category. Girl Dreamer is a digital platform that caters to personal and professional development programs for women of color.
“Over 12,000 young women of color turn to Girl Dreamer for personal and professional development programs. As the daughter of Pakistani immigrants, Amna Akhtar is building the type of network she wished she had when she was younger (including an all-women-of-color longboard crew),” her profile states on the official Forbes site.
Every year, thousands of nominations and recommendations come in from former Under 30 alumni and industry experts, who review young innovators and prepare the lists. The list of Forbes 30 Under 30 features young innovators with their professional endeavors that directly positively impact society and bring about a change.
In a post, Akhtar and the team announced their latest achievement. The post said, “Since we are still and always will be in the business of celebrating women, our very own Amna has made this year’s Forbes 30 Under 30 List for her contribution to Social Impact, through GirlDreamer.”.
“Each day, here at GD, we get to experience the brilliance of Amna as a co-founder and creative director, but beyond that, as one of the original GirlDreamers- she co-created alongside our CEO, Kiran, a space they wish existed. We are so proud and grateful that we get to cultivate this community with such powerhouses,” the post concluded.
A post on Girl Dreamer’s official Instagram says that “Cultivating this community has been an incredible journey for us- it’s one of our greatest accomplishments, being able to support young women who look like us, have similar, similar experiences, desire for change, and who are committed to showing up for themselves and their communities. When we started GirlDreamer, we never imagined that this would be the space we would have cultivated- and yet, here we are.
And as we get to champion even more women through our Dream Fund, supported by our recently launched Merch, we want to remind you that the vision that won’t let you rest, the one you have been hiding deep within, the one that makes your heart smile but your hands tremble, that one, run towards it, or walk- but either way, guide yourself towards the beat of that drum. It’s worth it.”
