Globally renowned sneakers producer Adidas has partnered with many different artists, and this time they have roped in Azra Khamissa for henna-patterned sneakers.
The Dubai-based artist has designed not 1 or 2 but 3 henna-inspired sneakers for the footwear brand as part of a collaboration with local creatives including Latifa Saeed, Christopher Joshua Benton, and Hessa.
Khamissa made the official announcement on her Instagram page with the caption:
“I was commissioned by Adidas to design three sneakers using henna. It was a lot of fun using henna on leather, and actually quite challenging. Hope you like them, and please let me know if you pass by to see them at the new Adidas Originals store in Dubai Mall! الحمدلله”
The three designs see striking henna against the all-white sneakers, with one pair of high-tops featuring detailed stripes, the second with zig-zags, and the third with a wavy, filled-in pattern.
Such collaborations with top-notch brands have opened many doorways for regional artists and their careers. Just a few weeks ago, the brand collaborated with one of the most famous Pakistani-origin restaurants in Dubai called ‘Ravi Restaurant’ to launch a fun green and white-themed trainers series.
“We are thrilled at the community’s response to this collaboration,” Vicki Fitzsimons, senior brand director at Adidas Mena, told The National.
“Our eCommerce website sold out within a few hours of the launch, and we’ve had some of our fashion retailers sell out within minutes of the launch, which serves as a true testament to the significance of Ravi Restaurant in Dubai.”
Adidas declined to comment on the topic of resale and has chosen not to reveal how many pairs of shoes were released.
Do you want to get your hands on one of these cool pairs of footwear? We do!
