The cat eyes and then smokey eyes trend took over the world of fashion in a flash, before you knew it, everyone from local and international celebrities to brides and models had adapted it.
Now, netizens have a new obsession! Termed ‘Siren Eyes’, this look gives your eyes the pop you’ve been wanting.
Move over boring nude makeup, it’s time for siren eyes to take over. Inspired by TikTok, this style is a combination of the classic cat eye but slightly smoked out.
According to statistics by Vogue, netizens’ search for ‘sultry makeup look’ increased by 5,000% in June. Furthermore, the hashtag #SirenEyes received over 138.6 million views on TikTok.
That’s not all, celebs have started to donne the look nowadays on the red carpet too! So, how do you create this look you ask?
Director of Artistry and Education at Kevyn Aucoin Beauty, Nick Lujan shared that for the perfect look, you need to “start small, using light matte shades and then build into the drama with dark shades.”
Take your contour kit and apply the light shade all over, the medium matte shade from the lash line to the crease, and then the deep matte shade to draw on the soft, smoky liner with a wing.
On the other hand, Buxom Cosmetics Global Celebrity Makeup Artist, Ash K Holm, recommends that ladies should tight line their eyes with a long-wear eyeliner pencil.
“Create an outer corner wing liner with the same pencil,” she says. “You don’t have to worry about making it perfect because siren eyes are smudged, making the look easier to achieve.”
Carolina Dali, a professional makeup artist adds, If you’re recreating the siren eyes look on yourself, Dali stresses the importance of calibrating it to your eye shape.
“If it’s your first time trying it, play with it when you have nowhere to go,” she says. “Shadow and line where it best complements your own eye shape.”
A few helpful strategies: “For those with eyes on the smaller side, line the center of the lash line with a nude liner to further open up the eyes,” she says, noting her go-to is Chanel’s Le Crayon in beige shade Claire.
“If your eyes are set closer to one another, go lightly on the liner in the inner corner and follow with a touch of champagne eyeshadow to brighten up that area and create an illusion of more space between the eyes.”
To correct any mistakes and perfect the lines, keep cotton swabs and a bottle of micellar water on hand.
