In Pakistan, it is relatively difficult for differently-abled individuals to survive or carry out their day to day tasks without help due to the lack of resources set for their unique needs. Most public spaces aren’t even wheelchair friendly, a necessary infrastructure attribute in most countries. Thus, most differently-abled individuals suffer at the hands of lack of resources and are never given the opportunity to excel in their lives.
Due to this very reason, and including many other factors, we don’t see differently-abled individuals in public spheres. Despite all this, one bright woman, Tanzila Khan from Punjab, an activist and entrepreneur, has broken barriers and is set to redefine success on her own terms despite being differently-abled.
Tanzila is the founder of Girlythings. Pk, a business that delivers sanitary napkins and other products with love and care. She is on a mission to help improve women’s health. Just this month, Tanzila and her 2 other differently-abled friends made it local headlines as the trio on wheelchairs travelled to Egypt for a vacation.
After reading up on their journey, one would wonder what these incredible women have next on their list? Well, we know what Tanzila is up to. She has done it again and made it to Europe for her Master’s degree, particularly in Sweden. She announced the news on social media.
She wrote in her Instagram post, “Traveling can make you delusional. It can make you believe you can do what seems impossible. It can unleash potential. It can also able disabled. My earlier solo trip to Turkey followed by a trip to Egypt with my wheelchair buddies made me dream bigger, and now I am in Europe to pursue my Masters and set an example of Independent living for other people with disabilities.”
She added, “Sweden is beautiful, accessible, and I have been cooking, cleaning, studying, buying groceries and travelling around running errands. My mind is already working on business ideas, travel plans and creativity. This is what travelling does to you. It makes you a phoenix. It makes you overcome what you thought you could never. I hope I am able to inspire other people with disabilities to enjoy life and be an asset, and I hope families of people with disabilities become as supportive as my family has been to me.”
