Popular influencer Shahveer Jafry is in hot waters for his latest video in which he is seen trying to smother his wife. While the content was supposed to be lighthearted and for laughs, it is high-time influencers realize that not everything is a joke.

Be it someone’s weight, colour, or a topic extremely serious as domestic violence, it is NOT permissible to make fun of victims who have lost or have been close to losing their lives through such incidents.

Domestic violence is a serious issue that affects millions of people around the world. It is a form of abuse that can have devastating physical, emotional, and psychological effects on the victim, their children, and even their pets.

Unfortunately, some individuals in society do not take this issue seriously and may make fun of it in comical skits. This is not okay and can have damaging consequences for those who have experienced domestic violence.

Domestic violence is a real problem that affects people of all ages, races, and genders. It is not something that should ever be made light of, as it can cause significant harm to those who have experienced it.

Making fun of domestic violence in comical skits sends the message that this issue is not serious and that it is acceptable to make light of the suffering of others. This can be incredibly hurtful to those who have experienced domestic violence, as it undermines their experiences and can make them feel as though their pain is not valid.

‘ha ha ha So funny to pretend to strangle my wife. Sadly, this is one of the most common ways women are killed by their family members, including husbands and ex/current romantic partners.’ Writes Hera Hussain.

‘This is not appropriate or acceptable behaviour. Domestic violence is a serious issue, and it’s never a laughing matter. ‘ Wrote Bisma Rafique

‘All the people coming after the tweets, you haven’t been through the kind of domestic violence shown in the video. Just take a moment and “think” how would the victims of such violence if they were Shahveer’s fans and were watching this video would feel. Tang asal mai ap log ara rahy hain, wrna smjhdar ko ishara kafi hota.’ Wrote an Instagram user.

While others asked netizens to calm down and ‘learn how to take a joke’.

We hope that influencers realize that their content not only triggers victims but also makes people think it’s okay to perform such stunts at home.

“My Guards & My House Workers Were Invited to the Wedding,” Shahveer Jafry Distances Himself from the Derogatory Sign Board at Garrison Gold Club

Shahveer Jafry is one of the most popular Pakistani YouTubers, with a whopping 3.03 million subscribers on the video-streaming platform. He is famous for his comedy sketches on the platform. The star recently tied the knot with fashion designer Ayesha Beig in star-studded events. It is safe to say that he received a lot of media coverage on his big day because of his popularity.

Photos and clips uploaded by fellow YouTubers, actors present at events, Shahveer himself, and media houses did numbers online. Fans were following Shahveer’s big day. While all eyes were on the couple and every little detail, a photo from the reception started making rounds online due to a signboard.  The signboard said, “Drivers & Guard are not allowed inside during function.”  

Fans felt angry and disgusted to witness this behavior at such a big star’s wedding assuming it was the host’s fault. A lot of backlash was received on the image online. Shahveer commented on Wow 360’s post on Instagram, distancing himself from the derogatory signboard to clear the air.

He commented that he feels the board was disgusting, “I rented out Garrison Gold Club for my Walima. I had absolutely nothing to do with this sign and do not support this message. I think it’s disgusting.”

He also made it a point that his guards and house workers were also invited to the events, “In fact, my guard and my house workers were invited to the event. Also, I never notice the sign. Had it come to my attention I would’ve had it removed.”

 

In December 2020, the rumors of Ayesha and Shahveer’s engagement were making rounds on social media. He later laid them to rest with stunning pictures of himself with his fiancee on his Instagram account, making it official.

Just recently, the YouTuber came out with his clothing line named “STY.”
