Maryam S. Khan, a visiting research fellow at the Institute of Development and Economic Alternatives, posted photos of a police officer harassing her and her daughter on the road on Twitter.

Khan, based in Lahore, tweeted photos of the police officer waving and blowing kisses at her and her daughter while on the road. She instantly took photos of the culprit and posted on Twitter what had escalated.

“Here are photos of a traffic police officer named SAMI ULLAH on Mall Road, Lahore, at 12.30 pm today harassing me and my daughter while we were at a traffic light stop before G.O.R. 1.,” Khan wrote.

She tagged @ctplahore and asked, “Are you ready to clean up this filth from your ranks or is this not your priority?”.

The tweet instantly received lots of public attention on the micro-blogging site.

A user wrote in a tweet, “This is really non-professional behavior and should noticed by @ctplahore @HamzaSS”

“Who do women go to now?” wrote another user.

“And you would think women aren’t harassed in full view of mall road Lahore at peak day time by a traffic police officer on bike. Twitter is a very small representative segment, yet every day dozens of such tweets are reported, now think of what pakistani mardods do on streets/etc.,” a user wrote.

Clearly, the problem is much bigger in the city of Lahore.

“This is the most disgusting uniform in pakistan, not because of this, but i hate this uniform for various reasons too,” wrote another user.
Many underneath the tweet took sides with the officer assuming he was entertaining the kid.

A female user tweeted,” It’s disturbing how so many are gaslighting the lady on some assumptions that the person in pic might not harassing her & he might be entertaining the kid…Blah blah Check the pic dude, Why he approached the car and tried to be so frank as if he knows her?”

The City Traffic Police Lahore tweeted that Khan can file an official complaint on the Rasta app suggesting that it is the ‘Right’ forum. “

Mam if you have any complain regarding any traffic police official .you can register complain on Rasta app which is the right forum please.”
