There is great news for females of Karachi. An up and coming, new hangout space has opened at Khayaban-e- Sehar, by the name of Pinky Gul; and it is entirely women-centric. Finally, a safe space for female to hangout and feel comfortable doing their own thing.
A space where women of all age groups, backgrounds can come and enjoy a cup of coffee, finish their official work or assignments, or simply come and chill with other lady friends.
The best part about Pinky Gul is that it also fully supports women-led businesses. The entrance opens to an aesthetic display of feminine tote bags, fridge magnets, handcrafted jewelry, show pieces, clutches, decoration items, paintings etc. These are all items created by small scales female led businesses.
There is also a wide range of skincare products available for sale which you can browse while waiting for a freshly brewed FLOC’s cup of coffee.
The ambience is aesthetically pleasing, warm, welcoming and homely. There are comfortable sofas and coffee tables and to just sit, relax and enjoy a book with coffee. Warm hues, homely wall painting and flowery staircases reflect a feminine vibe and the flowers depicted in the painting are all locally grown flowers- in Pakistan
Hussain Ahmed Khan and Samia Ali Khan are the creative talents behind Pinky Gul’s ambiance. While talking to Catacut, they said they were going for a ‘nani ka ghar’ vibe and I feel they totally succeeded.
I want people to come here and feel like they are in their nani’s house, a second home. That was the pitch I was given by my client,” said Hussain Ahmed Khan, an architect and the curator of the space. Art can mean different things for different people, but for Hussain, it apparently means creating something that is inspired by your own life. “A lot of architectural spaces depict masculinity, but hardly any space depicts femininity. The inspiration behind the mural was the way our nanis pamper their flowers and gardens.
