In Sindh, teachers will now be required to get a practice license to teach at a school or college, like other professionals.
In most parts of the world, teachers and other professionals are required to acquire licenses from relevant authorities to be able to teach at schools, colleges, and even universities. The license is only granted to those individuals who meet the set criteria and have the required qualifications.
Doctors, lawyers, engineers, and other professionals in Pakistan must pass their professional exams and obtain their licenses. However, no license was issued to teachers until the latest developments in Sindh were announced by Sindh’s Minister for Education and Culture, Sardar Shah.
Raising the Standard of Education in Sindh
Shah has said the rule would apply to both private and public sectors. The intention to bring about this change and issue mandatory licenses is to raise the standard of education in the region.
In many schools in the country, children complain of teachers being incapable of teaching. They lack a basic understanding of the courses they teach, which hinders students’ learning. Licensing teachers is a step that will prove to be an effective method for the educational system to hire only those teachers who meet the criteria and understand the course they are teaching.
Unsustainable Schools to Shut Down in Sindh
The Sindh government plans to shut down about 6,000 schools in the region. This is because these schools have been declared unsustainable. This is again to be done in order to raise the standard of education in the country.
