Pakistan is home to extraordinary talents, including our very own Ayesha Kamal. Based in Lahore, Kamal is an Islamic calligrapher who is widely recognized for her work.
She has been painting beautiful canvases, filling them with colour, energy, and much more for 10 years. According to Kamal, she tries to emphasise the message of the Holy Quran through her art as she believes that the soul is connected to calligraphy whether one can understand what is written or not.
She says:
“I try to emphasize the message of the Quran through my art. I believe that your soul connects to a mystery as soon as you observe a piece of calligraphy whether you can or cannot understand what’s written.”
Recently, her work was displayed at the ‘Contemporary Art of Pakistan’ event at The National Library of Belarus. Around 80 Art pieces by Pakistan’s prominent Artists Sadequain, Ayesha Kamal, and Noreen Sadjid are being showcased in the exhibition organized in the framework of XXXI International Festival of Arts “Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk” which will continue to be open for the general public till 14 August 2022.
During the event, Kamal gave an interview saying “It’s an honour to have been given this opportunity to tell you a bit about my artistic creations,” the artist said.
Art is a form of communication for me. I try to emphasize the message of the Holy Quran through my art. There are many forms of admirable art in Pakistan. People ask me, why I chose Islamic calligraphy out of all. Islamic calligraphy is said to be the most fundamental element of Islamic art.
A single brushstroke can give the impression of an alphabet. I believe that your soul connects to a mystery as soon as you observe a piece of calligraphy whether you can or cannot understand what’s written.
I am amazed by the hospitality of people living in the Belarusian capital. My trip here has been fascinating and I am honoured to be able to play a part in promoting Pakistani art internationally, she added.
