#GirlsEduMatters Trends on Twitter in Pakistan

GirlsEduMatters

A new trend took over Twitter this morning, the hashtag #GirlsEduMatters started to trend as one of the top 10 topics of the day. This is because according to the most recent reports, there are about 5,265,529 girls in Punjab who are out of school (Punjab-PSLM 2019-20).

Moreover, in order to ensure every girl out of school receives education by 2030, Punjab will provide a stipend/monetary incentive and the nutritional support needed to encourage parents to send their daughters to school.

Education is important for everyone equally, be it a girl or a boy, however, even in today’s era, there are households that believe that boys will get by and that a girl’s place is inside her home, particularly the kitchen.  Girls who have the fundamental right to receive education are unable to because of pressure from their homes.
On the other hand, many believe that an educated woman will be able to stand up for herself, and will be able to express her rights. Moreover, suppressing a woman with strong willpower would be a difficult task.
What many failed to understand is that giving girls the right to education will create livelihood, tackle unemployment, and other monetary issues associated with it.
Well-educated girls understand the importance of healthcare and family planning, and they contribute to a progressive society by helping strengthen the economy among many other things.
