Isn’t it time that society started shifting mindsets and focus on how a man can make a better husband rather than focusing on a woman being a good wife only? It is crucial to understand that marriage is a partnership where both husband and wife must play their roles to balance the equation. Be it parenthood or being a good husband/wife.
Self-proclaimed motivational speaker and writer, Qasim Ali Shah’s view is focused only on a woman’s ultimate role; being a good wife and motherhood. We feel a man’s role as a father and a husband is greatly overlooked. While we agree, both individuals play different roles in their marriage and children’s upbringing, they must share equal responsibilities.
Shah further complained to the host that none of that is being taught at schools, colleges or even at universities as to how girls can excel in becoming a good wife and later, a mother.
Should society teach men how to be good husbands and fathers?
1 – Cooking is only a woman’s job
In our society, only women are required to cook all three meals each day. The truth is, both genders need to learn how to cook – which is a basic survivor skill. Both genders must share housework equally.
However, in case the woman is back home, then she can make a little more effort.
2 – Mother’s blamed for the upbringing
While a child’s upbringing is questioned, only mother’s are to blame. What about fathers? Is the role of a man to only provide for their family? The children also come under a father’s responsibility. You have to nurture them. Take care of their needs, just like a mother does.
3 – Only Women in the house do laundry
While it may not sound like a big deal, but laundry is a lot of work especially, if you are expected to wash a week’s stash for the entire house. Men can do their laundry on the weekends – like adults!
4 – Women are expected to keep the house clean
It is not important to clean the house every day but folding your bed every morning is a great way to begin! Both husband and wife can deep clean the house on weekends.
5 – Women are expected to clean up after dinner
Done with dinner? Great. Don’t forget to pick up your plates, wash them, and keep them back from where you got them. This is a basic rule. Leaving dirty dishes behind is not ok for men or women.
Don’t reduce women to being a good wife and mother. Sure, these are part of life but don’t make them their only roles. They have a lot more to offer to the world.
