Discovering Diabetes Project Actively Engages with over 300,000 Diabetes Patients
In Pakistan, diabetes is rapidly gaining in numbers and it is estimated that about 60 million people in Pakistan are suffering from this disease. Experts believe majority of the population is living with diabetes and has not been diagnosed with it yet.
Diabot’s is part of the “Discovering Diabetes” Project, which has been actively engaging with over 300,000 individuals since its launch in 2021. This futuristic project aims to leverage artificial intelligence to reach millions of undiagnosed diabetics and effectively manage their condition.
The launch event witnessed the presence of esteemed individuals in the healthcare sector, including Vice President of Pakistan Endocrine Society (PES) Dr. Ali Asghar, Brand Ambassador for Discovering Diabetes, Waseem Badami, Managing Director of the local pharmaceutical firm PharmEvo, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Essa Laboratory and Diagnostic Center, Dr. Farhan Essa, along with Dr. Nadeem Ashraf and other dignitaries.
Dr Ali Asghar addressed the public urging everyone to adopt a healthy lifestyle,
“Physical inactivity in addition to unhealthy, processed food, heavy intake of unhealthy oils and use of sugar-rich sweets, confectionary and drinks are the major cause of diabetes in Pakistan.”
Syed Jamshed Ahmed highlighted the overwhelming response to the “Discovering Diabetes” helpline, which prompted the development of Diabot. This AI-driven solution now stands poised to cater to the inquiries of the general public, offering guidance on diabetes-related concerns, promoting healthy dietary choices, and providing advice on calorie management to foster overall well-being.
He further stated,
“Future phases include the establishment of an advisory boards and the expansion of Diabot’s knowledge base. We have recently partnered with Dr Essa Lab to offer subsidized lab tests for diabetic patients, making healthcare more accessible.”
PharmEvo would also be covering the costs of those who are unable to afford the subsidized testing at Dr Essa Labs.
