Alia Bhatt has made a sustainable fashion statement with her mehndi ensemble using 180 patches of textile and leftover scraps from the brides’ earlier outfits.
Brides worldwide long to wear pristine and unique-looking outfits on their big day. Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt chooses otherwise. She decided to wear an ensemble on her mehndi, made with approximately 180 textile patches and some scraps from brides’ earlier outfits and detailing from Manish Malhotra Archives.
The pink lehenga and blouse Alia wore at her sangeet/mehndi took 3000-hour of intricate handwork of Mijwan women. “The very beautiful Aliaa Bhatt chose to personalize her Mehendi ensemble with a sustainable approach. Approximately 180 textiles patches come together to mark her momentous occasion, the most special one indeed. The custom touches on reminiscing about her journey and depicts symbolic elements of her memories.”
Her outfit was inscribed through Kashmiri and Chikankari threads, the blouse was embellished in real gold and silver nakshi and kora flowers, and vintage gold metal sequins from kutchh.”The patches are woven together using a couture technique of cross-stitches with three tar and six tar anchors. Edged in real gold zari and appliques, this handwoven silk ensemble also carries Banarasi brocades, jacquard, bandhani, Kachha Resham knots, and some scraps from brides’ earlier outfits and detailing from Manish Malhotra Archives. Every love story is unique.”
It has been a few days since Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor have tied the knot, but there’s still a lot of discourse around Alia’s outfits. While many loved her simple yet beautiful no-makeup looks, many didn’t appreciate it.
