Hira Ali Studios, a Lahore-based fashion brand, is in the talks for its latest collections debut on social media. The collection called ‘Nonconformity Collection’ which refuses to conform to prevailing fashion practices in today’s world.
The idea behind the collection seems to be as if the designer wanted to create pieces that can be worn by anyone regardless of their gender. 14 unisex pieces have been carefully created under the latest collection.
The images that are up on Hira Ali Studio’s Instagram page right now are of a male model donning a few outfits including a black embellished lehenga paired with a black turtleneck featuring a skateboard and a coffee cup, a sherwani with a heavily embellished red dupatta with a pair of glasses and a basketball, and a light pink lehenga paired with a mint green coat and red boxing gloves.
What is the idea behind Hira Ali’s latest collection?
The designer told Images that “The series flips the script and breaks the mould. It challenges the viewer to see fashion from an entirely new lens and evokes [a] spectrum of emotions for the viewer. That was the whole point and that was what we wanted the series to be about”.
Naturally, when you challenge societal norms, you are likely to receive a backlash. As soon as the first few pictures came out on social media, there was a buzz around town. Everyone had to give an opinion on the matter.
The designer said they have received mixed reviews and much to our surprise, she was expecting this reaction. In her opinion, the collection is truly challenging the norms. “People always want reality to fit their idea of how it is supposed to be and how it has been done in their lifetime,” the designer said.
