It’s no secret that this is the most eventful time of the year for Pakistani drama makers when publications, journalists, critics pour out love for the work produced by them in the past year.
For someone like me who ends up watching a drama or two each year, I usually expect them to make it to everyone’s top 5 list because there are only a handful of drama serials, in my opinion, which were substantial.
So was 2021 a hit in terms of dramas produced in Pakistan? Not really, but it wasn’t bad either. Let’s have a look at the Top 5 dramas that created a buzz this year among audiences:
1 – Parizaad
Parizaad, a commercial masterpiece aired on HUM Tv in July, is probably the most treasured drama serial of the year, mainly due to the storyline and intelligent writing by Hashim Nadeem. The drama is based on a novel that goes by the same title. It has garnered a great fan following for its gut-wrenching narrative. The cast includes big stars such as Urwa Hocane, Ushna Shah, Yumna Zaidi, Saboor Ali, Nauman Ijaz, Ahmed Ali Akbar, and Syed Muhammad Ahmed. The show is directed b Shehzad Kashmiri and produced by Momina Duraid.
2 – Chupke Chupke
Comedy is the most difficult genre to produce. It’s not easy to make the audience laugh and keep them hooked for the entire season. Saima Akram Chaudhry’s Chupke Chupke was applaudable. The drama serial with 30 fun-filled episodes garnered a great fan following from all walks of life. The play is aired on Hum Tv featuring Osman Khalid Butt, Ayeza Khan, Ali Safina, Mira Sethi, Asma Abbas, Huma Beg, Arslan Naseer and Aymen Saleem.
While some love the show immensely and have binge-watched it on YouTube, others haven’t yet approved of it as one of their favourites.
3 – Raqeeb Se
Written by Bee Gul, from the first shot to the closing scene, the drama is sheer bliss to watch. Audiences praised the production, storyline, direction, music stage, craft, and the acting of characters that kept them glued to the screen. The show is a Pakistani Urdu-language romantic drama television series produced by Momina Duraid under banner MD Productions.
4 – Khuda Aur Mohabbat
Khuda Aur Mohabbat is the third season of the Pakistani spiritual-romance series Khuda Aur Mohabbat. The show stars Feroze Khan and Iqra Aziz as lead characters. The show was produced by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi under 7th Sky Entertainment, and the show received positive reviews for its brilliant and heartbreaking narrative. The season premiered on 12 February 2021. Some views differ from the above-made statement and say it was stretched to the point of tedium, but some believe it was worth it.
5 – Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay
Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay is a drama serial directed by Farooq Rind and produced by Nina Kashif in collaboration with MD Productions. For this drama, Mahira Khan made a comeback to dramas, and fans were particularly excited about her entry into the world of television after 8 years. The drama is written by renowned writer Umera Ahmed.
The first thing to be mentioned is the direction that made this not so exceptional storyline exceptional to experience. Then comes the acting of the characters that kept the story alive. The director’s ability to capture such exquisite details, the microaggression of relationships with extremely relatable common life examples was admirable.
Drama Serial “Chupke Chupke” Reminds Fans of “Suno Chanda”. Read the full story here:
Depressing drama shows and Ramadan shows have ruled local TV as far as I can remember in the month of Ramadan. However, last year, the drama serial Suno Chanda made a fresh entry that was unexpected and overwhelmingly appreciated by fans due to the romantic comedy’s fun-filled entertainment. The trend is being revived this year and taking centre stage with Saima Akram Chaudhry’s Chupke Chupke.
