In recent years, Turkey has become a popular destination for Pakistanis, whether for travel purposes or higher education. Interestingly, Pakistani nationals are also moving to Turkey and easily obtaining citizenship in the country.
New regulations set in the country allow all foreigners to become Turkish citizens. However, the only requirement is to invest in the country financially or purchase a property. Since 2018, many foreigners have obtained citizenship by following the same path; the majority are Pakistanis.
Our Editor-in-Chief, Farhat Kapadia Mehboob, spoke to the Country Director for Hashim Group, Malik Jahangir Jan, to discover how Pakistanis can invest in Turkey to obtain Turkish citizenship.
“Hashim Group is one of the biggest real estate companies in Turkey, and now for the first time, our group has arranged a property expo in the downtown of Istanbul in which we have all the best developers of Turkey. We are providing services such as lawyers, bank account opening, everything under one roof,” says Malik Jahangir Jan.
In recent years, Turkey has become very famous in Pakistan, especially after Ertugrul was aired on the national tv channel dubbed in Urdu at the special request of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Malik Jahangir Jan added, “When I came at the beginning around five, six years ago, we hardly see any Pakistanis here and people used to ask me what language do they speak? Where is Turkey on the map? But things have changed recently a lot and, for good. Turkey and Pakistan are becoming very close to each other.”
Policy to Obtain Turkish Citizenship
While explaining the policy, he said, “There is a Turkish policy that gives you citizenship. If you buy a property for more than $250,000, you can get that citizenship for your family. We know that there are great issues associated with the Pakistani passport while settling in Europe, America, and other countries. However, in Turkey, there are no related issues. Pakistanis are getting visas to enter the country.”
The Turkish government is also making it easier for Pakistanis to come and settle easily in the country. “The restrictions with getting a visa are lenient as compared to other countries, so Pakistanis have been following this path; they buy the property and settle in Turkey with their families.”
Why is Turkey a Suitable Place for Pakistanis to Settle?
“After 9/11, Islamophobia has taken over across the globe. So for Muslims, Turkey has become an attractive place as it is a beautiful country, the majority of people are Muslims, the food is halal. Additionally, being a Pakistani, you do not undergo harsh treatment here as you do in other places in the world, unfortunately. In fact, the Turkish provide you with more protocol than Europeans in the country, even at the airport. So, it is great that a door has opened for Pakistanis to either travel to Turkey, settle in the country, or even come in for higher education. ”
