On the last day of September, The Pakistan High Commission in London launched the Oxford Pakistan Programme.
The initiative aims to provide students in Pakistan with research and academic scholarships. The program allows the students to study the opportunity to study at the prestigious Oxford University in England.
Under the initiative, the deserving students are given a chance to study graduate programs on scholarship. The Pakistani faculty members are given the chance of visiting fellowships and special lectures on eastern philosophy.
The Oxford Pakistan Programme was founded by two Oxford alumni, Haroon Zaman and Talha Pirzada. The academic head of the project is Adeel Malik, who is also an associate professor at Oxford University. Over £500,000 have been pledged by Pakistanis in the United Kingdom (UK) for the programme.
Associate Professor at Oxford University, Adeel Malik, took it to Twitter to announce the news, he said: “Delighted to announce the launch of the Oxford Pakistan Programme (OPP), a major new initiative on education and public diplomacy at @UniofOxford OPP will generate scholarship opportunities for Pakistani students & consolidate Pakistan-related academic activities @oxfordgiving.”

Christian Turne, British High Commissioner to Pakistan, said that the Oxford Pakistan Programme is a milestone in establishing an academic correlation between the United Kingdom and Pakistan. He also added that the 1.6 million British Pakistani community is a living bond between the two countries.

In a speech at the programme launch in London, Malik regretted that Pakistan still studied and represented through the lens of radicalization and militarism.
Adeel Malik also announced a new research initiative on “National Sovereignty and Development” at Oxford University. The latest project is named after a famous activist in the subcontinent, Muhammad Ali Jauhar.
