The son of a prominent businessman in Pakistan, Zahir Jaffer is in police custody after being found with Noor Mukadam beheaded at his house in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad.
The 27-year-old’s father is Shaukat Mukadam, a former diplomat who served Pakistan as an ambassador to South Korea and Kazakhstan. The barbaric killing of Noor has sent shock waves throughout the nation. The murderer has been booked on the (302) premeditated murder charges of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Noor was laid to rest on July 22nd.
Ataur Rehman, Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation), said, “Whenever someone’s brutal murder is carried out, we shouldn’t care about the financial position of the culprit even if they are the son of a very influential father.”

Pakistani lawyer and women’s rights activist Nighat Dad told an international publication that “There are fears that the accused will get bail and leave the country,” she said.
“If the accused ends up going Scott-free, it will feel like all women in the country have died. It will really show the reality of our criminal justice system.”

Shahbaz Gill, Prime Minister Imran Khan’s spokesperson and special assistant in political communication, has said that the premier has ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Islamabad not to make any grants while investigating Noor’s case. The court has been asked to investigate the case on a merit basis.
Shireen Mazari, Minister for Human Rights, is also personally invested in the case.

Today, Noor’s father appeared at a press conference where he emphasized that authorities must punish Zahir Jaffer for the brutal murder of his daughter.
He said Zahir Jaffer was sound when found at the crime scene, according to the police. He has no mental disability. He was conducting therapy sessions at Therapyworks and was also the director of a company. And if so, he had mental disabilities, the police must investigate the parents for putting him in the position. They are accomplices in the heinous crime.
He said, “My daughter was innocent and loved animals; I have served the nation, and I want justice”.
Noor’s mother has yet not been able to come to terms with the tragedy.

In recent developments, Zahir’s criminal history has been requested by investigators from the United States and the United Kingdom to Verify his involvement in sexual harassment and rape cases
“The reason for seeking the criminal record is to verify information about his involvement in sexual harassment and rape cases in the UK, which led to his deportation from the country,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation Attaur Rehman told DAWN.
The murderer is placed on Exit Control List (ECL) to guarantee that he cannot escape to the US.
