WOW360 has been selected as one of the recipients of the Google News equity fund. We are honored to join a global group of 450 newsrooms across 52 countries that create journalism for underrepresented communities around the world.
This initiative by Google as part of the Google News Initiative (GNI) platform is a movement to create ” a more representative and inclusive news industry ” and will also work towards supporting the digital transformation for publishers. Additionally it aims to further ” strengthen inclusion, empower a diverse news ecosystem and specifically support small, medium sized publishers creating original journalism for underrepresented communities around the world.”
Pakistan ranks as one of the lowest countries on the Global Gender Gap Index. It is the 5th most populous country in the world, with a 50% female population. Despite the vast amount of talent, there is underutilized potential due to a lack of equal opportunity, access to information and education.
WOW360 highlights women, especially Pakistani women, who have broken barriers in various fields. Their stories inspire others and can encourage them to connect with them and learn more. We also focus on the marginalised transgender community through stories and interviews and also on those who are differently abled but have made a mark both nationally and globally.
The support rom Google will enable us to focus on creating content and reporting on issues that we believe promote diversity, equity and inclusion.
Today, we are excited to share that more than 450 news organizations across 52 countries have been selected as recipients of the News Equity Fund.
