Today, the world is running in a rat race to produce the safest vaccine for COVID-19 after millions of people have been affected and lost their lives to this deadly virus.
Speaking of producing the vaccine, companies are obligated to provide data after successfully conducting trials. Only successful data can further attract wealthy countries across the world to invest in the vaccine.
Who is this Powerful Duo Taking the World By Storm?
Ugar Sahin is the chief executive of BioNTech – he is the son of a Turkish immigrant working in Cologne at a Ford factory. His wife, Ozlem Tureci, Chief Medical Officer of BioNTech SE, migrated to Germany – a Turkish physician’s daughter. The couple together co-founded the company – valued at $21 billion. Currently, among the 100 wealthiest Germans on this planet since their vaccine has taken the lead in the market.
Who Developed Pfizer and BioNTech’s Vaccine for COVID-19?
The duo had spent years in the lab and all their hard work researching how the immune system can be harnessed against cancer. Their research for cancer is ongoing; however, they have come up with a successful COVID-19 vaccine in a midway – which the world is desperate for.
Trials Prove that the vaccine is 90% Effective in Preventing COVID-19.
Pfizer and BioNTech are the first two companies to produce vital data after conducting large-scale clinical trials for the COVID-19 vaccine. Later this month, these companies are looking forward to ’emergency use authorization’ in the United States.
This particular vaccine’s initial trials conducted on a large-scale have proved to be effective 90% in preventing COVID-19, according to the German biotech firm and BioNTech’s American pharmaceutical partner.
Where Did the Couple Meet?
Ozlem met her husband Ugur while he worked in Hamburg and Cologne. According to Matthias Kromayer, the couple is down to earth regardless of becoming billionaires. Since 2008, Venture capital firm has been supporting BioNTech, of which Kromayer is a board member.
Other Exceptional Work By Ugar and Ozlem
In 2001, the couple thought of using their knowledge towards a more significant cause. They came up with Ganymed Pharmaceutical together to develop cancer-fighting antibodies. Later in 2005, the pharmaceutical was sold to Novartis – a Swiss multinational pharmaceutical company based in Basel.
Later, they were witnessed setting up their research company, BioNTech, to attempt a more extensive range of cancer immunotherapy tools. The company is committed to the advancement and production of effective immunotherapies for a patient-specific approach.
With the Pandemic at hand, Ugur recognized the transportation from anti-cancer mRNA drugs to mRNA-based viral vaccines was insignificant. The couple teamed up with a Fosun, a Chinese drugmaker, and Pfizer to work on several possible compounds and look like they cracked the code.
For now, the world is waiting for these companies to pass on their miracle vaccines so precious lives can be saved, and the world returns to what once felt ‘normal.’
