In the fast-paced world of Model United Nations (MUN), where young minds converge to debate global issues and craft resolutions, one team stands out among the rest.
Team MJ, under the astute guidance of Coach Murtaza Jafry, has been making waves at MUN events worldwide, leaving a trail of success and accolades in its wake.
Amidst the hallowed halls of the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, the stage was set for the most prestigious MUN event of the year.
MUN at the UN Headquarters 2024 beckoned forth future leaders from across the globe, offering them a platform to engage in high-level diplomacy, tackle pressing global issues, and forge impactful resolutions.
The conference began with a series of workshops delivered by experts and Diplomats about Youth Involvement, Sustainable Development Goals, and Leadership.
During the first committee session, delegates had the opportunity to engage at a high level by benefiting from experts in their field on the committee topics. It was here that Team MJ showcased its prowess, cementing its reputation as a formidable contender in the world of MUN.

At the heart of Team MJ’s success lies a steadfast commitment to excellence and a relentless pursuit of perfection. With meticulous preparation and unwavering determination, Team MJ delegates approached each conference with a strategic mindset and a hunger for success. Their journey was rigorous, as one of the students, Kaasim Chagla, describes.
The training sessions emulated the strenuous MUN atmosphere in the classroom to push their limits and work under pressure. However, on the day of the event, coach Murtaza Jafry makes sure the environment is calm to ensure that the delegates think calmly and confidently. During the conference breaks, they would all discuss what they had done in the sessions, and the coach would give them effective advice on how they could improve in the later ones.
The road to MUN success is fraught with challenges, but Team MJ navigated every hurdle with grace and resilience. From intensive research to extensive debate simulations, they spared no effort in preparing for the rigors of international conferences. Under the watchful guidance of Coach Jafry, they mastered the art of diplomacy, honed their negotiation skills, and learned to navigate the complexities of global politics with finesse.
After winning Best Delegate, Aaryan Ali Khan explains, “Upon winning, to be quite frank, I felt extremely relieved. The pressure of traveling from your home country to an entirely other continent felt dawning and winning made it feel all worth it. Once I was presented with my award, I was shaking with excitement and I honestly could not even believe what I had just achieved not only for Team MJ but for the reputation of my country on an international scale.”
For Kaasim, who won the Honorable Mention, his feelings were mutual, saying, “(winning) made me realize that I often underestimate myself as I am often unsure if I would win anything. This success has taught me that I can achieve anything I put my mind to. From now on, I intend to try everything that I find challenging, how impossible it may seem.”
But the success of Team MJ extends far beyond the confines of one conference. With victories at prestigious events such as Yale MUN and Cambridge MUN, they have carved out a legacy of excellence that inspires aspiring debaters worldwide. Each triumph serves as a testament to their dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
At the helm of Team MJ stands Coach Murtaza Jafry, a beacon of inspiration and mentorship for aspiring debaters. With his unparalleled expertise, unwavering support, and profound dedication to his students’ success, Coach Jafry has shaped the lives and futures of countless young debaters.
Kaasim mentions, “MUN is a great opportunity and it has taught me a lot about how to research, talk to other people, the art of public speaking, and general knowledge. Aa coach Murtaza Jafry would tell us – don’t give up no matter how hard it gets, success will come, but it will take time.” Certainly with Coach Murtaza Jafry leading the way, the sky is truly the limit for Team MJ as they continue to shine bright on the global stage of Model United Nations.
