Masarrat Misbah Shares Father is Behind Salon’s Success After Her Divorce

In a recent morning talk show on Alief TV, beauty guru, philanthropist and social worker, Masarrat Misbah spoke about her father, his distinct vision and his golden words that encouraged her to become who she is today. He not only ensured she educated herself but also helped her dream come alive with Depilex Beauty Clinic and Institute.

Masarrat Misbah is the founder of Depilex, one of the largest beauty salon chains in Pakistan. She has played a significant role in promoting the beauty and fashion industry in the country. Masarrat Misbah is also known for her philanthropic work. She has also established the Depilex Smile Again Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting survivors of acid attacks.

‘My father sent me abroad to study after my divorce’: Masarrat Misbah

“My father was a man with a vision, he was my ultimate support after my divorce and my pillar of strength until his last days.”

Masarrat Misbah talks fondly of her father, the man with a vision that goes beyond many in this society. Not many can do what he did at that time, supporting a divorced daughter, encouraging her to go study abroad, pursue her dreams and then help establish her beauty salon which then changed all of their lives forever.

“He called all of us 6 daughters and said I want you to study. He was a man with multiple responsibilities but he chose to educate us girls.”

It is heart-warming to see such a beautiful relationship between a father and daughter and we are happy that Masarrat had the support that a handful of women in Pakistan in the same situation as her would have. While parents are worried about, ‘Log kya kahengay’ it is fathers like Masarrat Misbah’s who decide to take charge and change the trajectory of their child’s life completely.

The Saviour of Acid Victims in Pakistan

Instead of spending her life as a divorcee with two kids in tow, she decided to take charge of her life and this led to her changing the loves of millions of women through her foundation ‘Depilex Smile Again Foundation’. The non-profit foundation works towards helping women who are victims of acid attacks. With nowhere to go, these women receive rehabilitation, treatment and then job opportunities with the Depilex Beauty Clinic and other entities to move ahead in life with their honour and dignity intact.

Masarrat Misbah’s efforts in this regard have earned her recognition and praise for her commitment to social causes and women’s rights in Pakistan.

Acid Purchase in Sindh to be Regulated & Credits go to Ms. Masarrat Misbah

Masarrat Misbah’s hard work and dedication have paid off. The Sindh Cabinet has approved the Sindh Regulation for Storage, Sale and Purchase of Acid Rules, 2022.

The  Depilex Smileagain Foundation has highlighted the cons of unregulated sales and how acid has ruined the lives of thousands of women, children, and even men in the country.

The NGO filed a Constitutional Petition before the High Court of Sindh, through its counsel Mr. Rashid Mahar, Barrister Vishal Shamsi and Ms. Anushka Khan.

Headed by Ms. Masarrat Misbah, a distinguished cosmetologist and philanthropist of Pakistan, Depliex Smileagain Foundation brought to the attention of a division bench of the High Court of Sindh comprising of the Honorable Chief Justice, Mr. Justice Ahmed Ali Sheikh and Mr. Justice Yousuf Ali Sayeed, who sought reports from the Secretary to the Government of Sindh on any existing rules in relation to the sale, storage and purchase of acid.

The government then had consecutive meetings with different departments for determining if the rules on the sale, storage, and purchase of acid existed, and it transpired that the regulations under the Poisons Act of 1919 had not yet been framed.

The Home Department, therefore formulated the rules and the Honorable Chief Minister of Sindh approved them and placed them in front of the Provincial Cabinet for approval. The Cabinet also approved the rules to regulate and prevent wide access to acid.

Reportedly, the initial Poisons Act of 1919, was designed to prevent the crime of throwing acid on people, by regulating of the sale of acid. The Rules provide a license requirement for specified persons to sell, store or purchase acid, and make it mandatory for the license holder to maintain a register recording: (i) the date of sale, (ii) the name and address of the purchaser along with a copy of his CNIC, (iii) the name and quantity of acid sold, (iv) the purpose of the purchase, and (v) the signature of the purchaser.

We are extremely proud of this commendable achievement put in motion by Ms. Masarrat Misbah and her team. We hope that this action will help prevent acid incidents and will help save many lives.
