In a series of ground-breaking events, the Skardu International Airport is going to receive its first-ever international flight from Dubai this Independence day, August 14th, 2023 via Pakistan International Airlines.
This marks a momentous occasion for the country and the Gilgit region especially, who will now be able to receive ten folds of visitors directly from international destinations. The one-of-a-kind airport, built in between the mighty mountains is a bespoke sight to behold and is one of the most unique and beautiful airports in the world.
Skardu is known to attract thousands of visitors each year, the road to Skardu may be tedious and quite dangerous but direct flights started two years back by the national carrier, PIA have made Skardu one of the most visited places by the local travellers.
Details on Skardu’s First International Flight from Dubai
Airbus 320 will be carrying passengers from Dubai to Skardu on the inaugural direct flight and the next two flights are scheduled for 19th August and will return back from Skardu to Dubai on 22nd August.
A special Pakistan State Oil fuelling station is also going to be inaugurated at Skardu Airport on 11th August. PSO has deployed employees and arranged fuel tankers. In order to handle the international passengers, FIA immigration and customs officials are also deployed at the airport.

In June, PIA initiated nonstop flight services connecting Karachi and Skardu, following their earlier introduction of direct flights originating from Lahore. The inaugural flight from Lahore to Skardu took place on 3rd August.
Skardu Airport stands as the only international airport in northern Pakistan with the capacity to handle international aircrafts such as the Airbus 320. This distinction arises from the relatively short runways at Gilgit and Chitral airports, which are not suitable for facilitating long-haul flights.

The ease of international travel to Skardu will encourage foreign investment in the region’s infrastructure, such as improved accommodations, transportation networks, and recreational facilities.
